: Various Suncoast prices...
DURAtotheMAX 06-16-2005, 11:48 PM HI everyone... Im kind of looking around and getting an idea of prices for Suncoast Allison tranny's. It seems like 3000 will buy a full level 5...but how much for labor to install it? Then a level 4 is 2600, but would require more labor to install/rebuild...how much would that labor be? Lastly, the level 3 for 2100...but I dont know what the labor would be for R&R and a rebuild.
Another question. Say if I bought a level III now...then in a year decided to get a level IV. Would I be basically buying a level IV all over again or would it be a lot less becuase I am upgrading from the level III?? With an LLY crew cab, whats probably the safest max RWHP I could get away with with a Level III? I know LLY power upgrades are a work in progress but would a level III be able to handle low 14 second or high 13 second ET's safely? Maybe thats a long shot...im not sure what the fastest LLY's run.
Final question (i promise:) )... are there any competant tranny installers in CT or new england that I could trust with a Suncoast install and/or rebuild???
many thanks everyone---Ben
mwgasman 06-17-2005, 12:24 AM Level V is $3000 PLUS the torque convertor (~$1300) PLUS Shipping both ways.
DURAtotheMAX 06-17-2005, 12:30 AM arrgh...forgot about the extra $ for the TC
mwgasman 06-17-2005, 12:35 AM IIRC the Level III and IV prices include the convertor. Good luck. I agonized over this for about a month. My SC V works very well for me.
lakingslayer 06-17-2005, 01:35 AM The IV was cheaper for me to have done than the V was. If you have a tranny doctor you trust get the IV unless you really want the SC Warranty on the V. Save your money to do the IV or V instead of doing the III and then a year later upgrading to one of the higher levels. You will end up paying more extra labor costs than the price difference between the two now. Plus you'll end up buying 2 TC since you have to buy one with the IV or V from SC and you'd have already bought one with the III. just my .02

I'm sure u can get one w/o the convertor, they just price the kits way.
Max Power 06-17-2005, 10:40 AM Officially suncoast will not sell a L4 without a TC.
dmaxalliTech 06-17-2005, 10:57 AM Buy as much as you can afford.... thats the bottom line
As for your questions, If you get a L III now and decide to upgrade to a L IV later, dont waste your time, its not worth pulling it twice for 5-600 difference in parts now.
A complete unit offers the Warranty which is a nice feature. That is the difference between a L IV and a V, the warranty.
A L III kit will be in the 2150 range plus shipping to and from, which is about 100 bucks, a L IV kit will be 2650, plus the 100 shipping to and from. A L V trans is 4400 range plus 3-600 shipping both ways.
Of course, dont forget to figure in the core prices either, a III will be 200, a IV will be 300 and a V will be 1400.00

Officially correct, but if a guy wanted to do so, it can be done, but the price would be in the 1500.00 range

GMC-2002-Dmax 06-17-2005, 11:35 AM Is the difference really that much from the III to the IV ???????
I know there are a few differences.....:D .....but many people are running a SC~Level III at the 500 RWHP and 1000++RWTQ without issues............I happen to be one of them.:ro)
I am not knocking the Level IV kit, and for the price difference it really is not alot to spend for the few extra's you get.........
I believe I would rather put the $500 towards something else for the tranny......;)
Oh well........JMHO.
Make sure you get the new 1053-D Converter rtather than the older 1050-D TC.........

dmaxalliTech 06-17-2005, 11:51 AM Since your gonna open the trans, put everything in the first time. Thats MO.
No such thing anymore as a 1053-3d, the 1050 has been tweaked to give a good all around feel, of course it can be tailored to individual taste as desired

Eric,
When you were at the dealership service dept.
What did they charge for a remove and rebuild (worst case scenario "all tore up" needing convertor and a bunch of hard parts.
If you could break that down in
1.non waranty
2.GM warranty
3.Aftermarket warranty (if charged differently than GM Warranty)
If you don't remember, thats okay. or if you'd rather I call thats fine too.
I was just wondering how those prices compare to Suncoast prices.
Thanks,
Pepperidge
dmaxalliTech 06-17-2005, 12:36 PM if it was all tore up, it got replaced, GM price on the hard parts is so stinking out of sight its not funny. a GM converter would set you back nearly a grand.
Hard parts dont get replaced with an upgrade typically so hard to compare. If its junk and your out of warranty and take it to a dealer, your throwing money away IMO. UPgrade it at that time.
Dmax Tim 06-17-2005, 01:01 PM Eric, what is this u got time to play on the internet but not answer calls?
I let a message, see if u can get me the TC and parts for next weekend.

That's not what Joe told me a month ago, he was more than happy to sell me what ever I wanted to right a check for.

OH WELL....................Censored
dmaxalliTech 06-17-2005, 05:43 PM Tony, Joe put it on the board, that he would tailer a current owners conv at no charge...
Pull that sucker out and send it down, he can turn it around in 24 hours so down time is minimal....
Mike L. 06-17-2005, 05:51 PM Suncoast Level 4 is sold only as a complete kit unless you are upgrading Level 3 in which case you can buy the kit without converter and shift kit.
mike
DURAtotheMAX 06-17-2005, 06:19 PM AHh everyone here is great, thanks for the info guys...what would I be looking at in terms of labor?? It's most likely between the Level III and Level IV...so whats a general cost of labor/installation of those two kits?????
Tranny's scare me...ill touch anything/tear into in an engine and any other car part, but when it comes to tranny's, my knowledge drops off a cliff. I know how a torque converter works and thats about it!!
Thanks again for everyones help ---- Ben

dmaxalliTech 06-18-2005, 10:06 PM DURA, 1400.00 is average labor price
DURAtotheMAX 06-19-2005, 10:17 AM dmaxallitech--- Is that labor price (1400) for a complete rebuild/removal and install (such as with a Level III or IV kit? Or is it how much a simple swap would be if I got a Level V kit. I would think labor would be significantly less for a Level V tranny because the shop doesnt have to touch it, they just swap my stock tranny with the Level V tranny.
thanks----Ben
dmaxalliTech 06-20-2005, 11:27 AM Yes, labor. Includes R&R and build.
A simple swap may be in the 600 range.
