I don't work on diesels too much, but was asked to put a low pressure pump(supposedly the problem) and filter housing back on this truck. Everything went back together, and the truck acts like it wants to fire, but it won't take off. It almost acts like it is out of time. Is it common for these engines to jump time? One guy who claims to know diesels said he thinks it needs a cam and cam gear I just have no idea where to start looking.

I'm gonna go ahead and ask the obvious, but did you bleed the air out of the fuel system?

There is nothing to time on that truck. The powerstroke injection timing is computer controlled.

You have 2 problems, first air in the fuel system, second, you don't have any oil in the high pressure oil reserve. The air in the fuel will work its way out after its running, but you won't get it started until you fill the resevoir up. It sits on top the motor directly in the middle. There is a little pipe plug on the cover, remove it, and fill it up with oil, then put it back on, crank the truck for 10 seconds at a time or so, about 5 times, and then it should fire up.
