: Can you tell if the truck does a Regen
teddyblue 01-19-2010, 11:20 AM Good morning, my new truck has about 500 miles on it and i haven't seen anything that would tell me that the truck went through a regen.
When it does regen, can you see it on the dash, is it mark?? I don't want to miss it as we don't do much mileage, we use it for going to work and it's only about 10 minutes, all city, once a week we take it for a stroll on the highway.
Thanks
theunderlord 01-19-2010, 11:22 AM I used to notice it at stoplights when the truck would idle high. Some say they can tell by the smell.
Tanc Crusher 01-19-2010, 12:12 PM No idiot light to tell you it is running. They just made it transparent tot he onwers of 2500 and 3500 trucks. If you want to see the status Edge makes a product called the Insight that will show you plus have a nice pod to fit which ever dash you have. Just paint to match. MSD makes the Dashhawk II in the same box as the insight and will show it as well.

Odds are you already missed it. Mine does it at roughly 400 mile intervals. The only way I catch it is by leaving the DIC on average fuel consumption. If I see it dropping unexpectedly odds are it's in regen. If I come to a stop when it's in regen the idle is up around 850-900 RPM instead of the normal 700-750. Other than those two items, and possibly smell, regen is so transparent most people never know when their truck is doing one, and I think that's how it should be. Although, I can't tell you how many times I've finished a long drive and regen kicks in a mile or two away from home. Once again, doesn't hurt anything as it'll finish the next time I drive the truck, but it would be nice if they gave us an option to manually initiate a regen when we know we're going to be on a long drive.

Thanks DanW, you just answered what was going to be my next question.
Thanks for all your comments, soon I will know a little bit more.
Thanks again

ABQFirefighter 01-19-2010, 02:39 PM When I had a DPF, I either noticed the slightly higher idle or smelled the "really hot metal" smell.
badinblack 01-19-2010, 11:41 PM can't notice at highway speeds......but if you are at a stop....either 800 vs 700 idle or "smelly" as others have mentioned
Spuco 01-20-2010, 05:14 AM If you have an exhaust gage hooked up you will notice it right away. While sitting at a light and you are wondering why the EGT 's are at 750-900 degrees "you are in regen"
Also when you are crusing on a hwy getting 19-20 MPG and then drop to 17-15 "you are in regen".
This how I found out & form my info on this site.

:rolleyes:Just listen to that thing. It sounded like it was coming apart. Do I have to say anything else.

IIRC, what you're hearing is a stuck injector seriously overfueling one of the cylinders. I doubt our Duramax would look/sound much better.
txrifleman 01-20-2010, 01:03 PM Mine averages every 200 or so. I notoce the rpm a little higher at idle and I can sometimes smell it.
WOLFN8TR 01-23-2010, 01:25 AM My truck never Regens at idle or city driving only at highway speeds. The average mpg drop 4 to 5 on the DIC when in Regen. And it's usually every three tanks.

Ford must be trying to burn the tires off Chevys since that's the only way they can outrun us :D
dana h 01-25-2010, 09:30 AM i can tell my truck smells different and a couple of times i fast idled but mostly the smell
XTINCT 01-25-2010, 10:47 AM What's regen????..........................j/k

This^^^^^^^^^^ I have noticed mine will idle at about 850 RPM instead of the normal 750RPM
I use a Bully dog Watchdog and see the factory pre DPF pyro hit between 1050 and 1250F. I have not monitored the post DPF pyro. Other than that just as everyone else has stated.
jonnygee24 01-26-2010, 02:36 AM You all know how big Ford is on their special edition trucks, that was just the tailgater edition with the grill right out the tailpipe. But If you ever get filter back exhaust there is a lot more drone in the cab. You will notice regen.
