I have read that the Duramax is detuned in 1st and 5th gear. When a tuner such as the Predator is used, does the tuner override the factory detuning?

I know that 1st and 5th in the Allison are not as strong as 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The stock engine HP and torque are not enough to cause problems, though.

When you add the Predator, you up the HP and torque, and this amend the factory tune. Running the 40 and 65 HP tunes should not cause problems with limping the tranny. Running the higher ones probably will.

The Predator certainly modifies the tuning in 1st and 5th if that's what you're asking. The 4-5 shift is where most trannys are limped if they're not beefed up.

Load the biggest Predator tune, put it in Tow/Haul, and these things feel like they're going to leap out from under you on the 1-2 shift!

LOL!! that's what i like to hear, sounds like how i had my 02 gas burner tuned with LS1 edit...bumped the line pressure up in the tranny and cut the shift times for the stock 1.5 seconds to complete down to 0, man that thing hit hard as hell:ro) :ro)
