: Pressure at the return line.
kingjason 01-18-2010, 05:49 PM Ok it lived once and no more. LOL Quick question If I pull the return line while cranking, it puts fuel out, but not a whole lot of pressure. At the filter when bleeding it looks to have a bunch of pressure. Would they be even or close to even. Also while cranking shouldnt it be putting out a bit of smoke. I mean it does a little bit but not much. When it did run it sounded good but I just cant get it to re crank. Also on manual GPS how long would you hold them. I am pretty sure the are 60's as I have mistreated them a little probably and they all show to function.
Diaric 01-18-2010, 06:22 PM glows, about 10-12 sec or so. if return puts fuel out, then injectors should be seeing fuel. no you will not see same pressure or volume as pulling fuel line. if you were supposed to see something like that, then it would be a bigger line
kingjason 01-18-2010, 06:38 PM Well I put a new fuel filter on it and proceeded to bleed the system per the FAQ on the top of the page. I got plenty of fuel comming out of the fuel filter bleeder. However I jumped the IP with a hot wire and proceeded to try to bleed it even further up to the return line. Well nothing no go. You could tell it was trying but just not getting anything out the return of the IP. Hmm either colapsed fuel line or shutoff valve not opening far enough. Am I assuming properly that I should have at least been able to get a decent stream out of the ip return before reconnecting the hose? I was getting a little bit of a stream while cranking before changing the filter.
smackzed 01-18-2010, 07:11 PM Is your radiator back in and full? If so I'd try to get it started with a gas soaked rag or Wd40 and try to get it up to operating temp. Then shut it down and see if it will restart. Is it possible that your starter is bad and not cranking fast enough/long enough. From your other post it seemed as tho it drained your batteries quick and slowed down.
I'm probably wrong but I thought the IP was mechanical not electric. What did putting power to the Ip do besides keep the shut off valve open?
kingjason 01-18-2010, 07:34 PM Radiator is nice and full. I havent tried penetrating oil yet but am open to it, just spray the inktake I guess? I wish I had a need for gas around here but I dont keep any around. My mower is the manual push type and weedeater is battery. LOL Yes it is mechanical but I was trying to bleed it to the IP pump so I wanted the valve open to see fuel coming out the return line fitting. I had read this was the way to do it but I couldnt get any pressure to the return line. I just thought that was odd.
kingjason 01-18-2010, 07:36 PM Starter is rocking now that its not in gear. It takes a while of cranking to kill the batteries too. I even hooked it up to my F350 and it doesnt seem to help.
smackzed 01-18-2010, 07:54 PM It can take a looong time to bleed. Even after you get fuel, out of the filter bleed. Just doesn't make sense that between putting the new fuel filter on and trying to start it that you kinked a fuel line or the shut off solenoid stopped working. Anythings possible tho.
lot1954 01-18-2010, 07:54 PM are your glow plugs working!!! quick way to test them take a test light put clamp on neg of battery and take wire off glow plug and touch glow plug tip with test light if it lights up then plug is good if no light then it is bad
Jodean 01-18-2010, 08:03 PM are your glow plugs working!!! quick way to test them take a test light put clamp on neg of battery and take wire off glow plug and touch glow plug tip with test light if it lights up then plug is good if no light then it is bad
what exactly would that do?? You mean hook to POS terminal??? The way you explained it would be touching a ground(at battery) to a ground(glow plug)
anyway, you can try pulling the return fitting from the top of the IP, the one that the return hose attaches. It should puke fuel out of it when cranking and it will start with that fitting out.
kingjason 01-18-2010, 08:21 PM All glow plugs are a go per the positive test light theory I think they are the 60's. Yeah I dont get the fuel not coming out of the top of the IP either. When I say a loooong time on the bleed I meen like 3 to 4 minutes after I hit the filter. I even cracked the filter bleed again to make sure I wasnt loosing my mind. I would have thought it would at least give me a stream out the front of the IP return after hot wiring it and 3-4 minutes at least.
I even had my wife flip on the GP's today and I tested the relay and all the wires at the glow plugs.
smackzed 01-18-2010, 08:48 PM yeah 3-4 mins should be more than enough. seems like a real mystery.
kingjason 01-18-2010, 11:19 PM LOL I thought I had a 6.5 Turbo on this thing. Turns out its a ATS. I need to figure out this manifold. I really doubt I was spraying anything anywhere before. It must of accidently got a wiff. Hmm searching now for info on the ATS kit. I was looking around and one guy had some really good pics.
IamDave0887 01-18-2010, 11:22 PM When you jump power to the IP which terminal are you putting power to?
The shutoff solenoid is the terminal dead on the top with the large pink wire going to it. You should easily hear it "click" when power is applied. if it doesn't click, its' dead.
kingjason 01-18-2010, 11:38 PM It clicks but just very lightly. When my wife turns on the key, her turning on the key is enough to drown out the click. When I jump it I can here a faint click.
lot1954 01-19-2010, 12:38 PM yes it is the poz of bat. " sorry "
kingjason 01-19-2010, 08:25 PM Yep pulled the front two glows today and rigged me a 12v jumper. Both looked fairly new and no swelling. Also 10 seconds using the battery to get the tip nice and red and they where autolights. Hmmm back to the fuel I guess.
