: 96 suburban drl's?
mpjman 01-18-2010, 06:31 AM On my 96 burban, i notice that there is a green indicator lamp illuminated on the dash while I am driving and was wondering if that is a DRL indicator, cause my headlamps dont go on while I am driving. If so is it a fuse or control board or module that has gone bad and if so where do i locate it on the truck and where can i get replacement parts?
As always thanks guys
Yes, the green light on the dash is the indicator for the DRLs. The DRLs will go off if the parking brake is applied slightly, usually to the first notch. My DRLs quit working 6 or 7 years ago. There is a DRL module that needs to be replaced if yours are not working. Of course, make sure your lights and fuses are all in working order too. The DRLs have a separate fuse, which can also be pulled to disable them. The DRL module should be under the drivers dash on the left. Others may be able to describe it better. If you buy a new one, it will make the hunt for the old one go quicker.

mpjman 01-18-2010, 08:39 AM would the indicator light on the dash go on even if the drl fuse is broken?
IamDave0887 01-18-2010, 10:00 AM No it won't go out. I pulled the fuse for my DRL's because i kept going through low beams. The green light on the dash still comes on, but the DRL's never do.
4doorTAHOE6.5TD 01-18-2010, 03:53 PM If the "multi function /"head light",switch fails you will have no head lights except the DRL's & they are low beam only .With the rotary Head light switch in the parking light on position , all rear/side & front parking lights& DRL will be on. Be wary of the $430.00 switch failure.Labor book gives about 2hr,. alowance to R&R the switch& you have to remove the steering wheel for acess. I would not make changes that can load the head light switch with more AMPS..

mpjman 01-19-2010, 07:04 AM I checked the fuse and it is not blown, what should i look for next and where do i look for it. Under the dash is too many wires to see whats what. I did see a harness in the far left corner dnagling and a little 2 wire cord as well, but dont know where they would go. Any one got pics what the drl module looks like so i can identify it?
thanks

To remove and replace the headlight switch does not require the removal of the steering wheel... I just took my cluster out this weekend. You have to "un-snap" the trim which includes the switch and the vents that goes around the radio, cluster, and heater controls. Took me less than 5 minutes to do that... then the switch comes out with the trim... Also, I priced a switch because I thought mine was going bad (was a losse connection) and I believe the switch was maybe $60, but I may be a little off on that price.

Only the dimmer switch is part of the multi malfunction switch. If the multi- function switch goes bad you are better off getting a complete steering column from a junkyard. I paid $75 for the column and air bag controler.

I am confused, what is the "multi" switch? I thought the headlight switch was the one that had the dimmer and dome override switch in it...

It is. Last one i bought was $25 at a junkyard with the wiring harness still attached.
The multi-function switch is the turn signal/wipers/high beam/etc switch. I replaced my multifunction switch in the auto parts store parking lot. Really not hat big of a pain, but it wasn't simple either.
4doorTAHOE6.5TD 01-20-2010, 02:09 AM Sounds like I have a misunderstanding or have recieved inacurate info about inoperative head lights. I have no hi beam head lights. Turn the key on & have Low beams that are the DRL circuit. I also have a fast flashing L.H. turn signal. All bulbs are working in ,both sides of the truck. That malfunction is the result of a low speed rear ender. ENLIGHTEN me please!! My high school electrical shop teacher would love this!!!
4doorTAHOE6.5TD 01-20-2010, 05:06 PM OK Guys,I went with a simple solution. I have a rotary headlite switch from a 2000 truck on hand .Simply R &R'd the original HL switch. The no headght problem solved!! But I still have the fast flashing L.H. turn signal. All bulbs are operating on both sides of the truck. I had a LH front minature marker light out after the crash.Replaced the minature bulb ,but fast flash persists. Ideas or raw knowledge solution would be welcome. Thanks

First, check the grounds, second, make certain the bulb is in correctly (I have seen this happen if it is in wrong... don't ask how it happened, haha), lastly, make sure the bulb is the correct bulb.
