: **7-9 Cognito Lift..What else is needed??**
CAJUNBOWTIE 01-18-2010, 02:39 AM I will be ordering my 7-9 Cognito Kit very soon. I want it done right the first time, so I am asking for your help. I will have it set around 8-8.5 with 37s and it will be professionally installed. I won’t be doing any offroading but occasionally pulling small trailers. I have my list pretty much made up, but I wanted you fellas to help me if I am forgetting anything. I’ve searched around this is what I have come up with.
7-9 kit
Cognito HD tie rods
Idler pivot assembly w/ weld in gusset
4 Bilstein shocks
Cognito UCA
6” Deavers
Keys
Axle shims
CV driveline
I went through NCT site and had some questions about running a few things.
Do I need to get…
Front & rear swaybars
2-3” Carrier bearing spacer
Limit straps
Tie rod sleeves
Differential mount conversion bracket kit
Any help will be greatly appreciated. THANKS
rocketracer45 01-18-2010, 09:17 AM Check the wheel size your ordering. I am looking to run a very similar setup with 37's and the guys are telling me that lift with 37's can be done and but it will rub rediculously! check out the last few pages of the Cognito 7-9 thread.
rocketracer45 01-18-2010, 09:18 AM scratch that you have the old body style. disregard!
varty yo 01-18-2010, 09:44 AM your list looks perfect. you dont need sleeves if your buying the HD tie rods. also you dont need the carrier spacer. no to the sway bars. but they are a nice addition. no to the diff bracket. no to the limit straps. as far as keys, i bought them but when i installed them they are cranked right down. could have done it with stock keys talk to Nick he will walk you through it.
I have the same set up on my truck
varty yo 01-18-2010, 09:48 AM do you want it to sit level in the rear or nose high? i ordered a 1" block for the rear to give me a little more height in the back. im set a little above 8" pics in the garage if you need to look
Dawg2500HD 01-18-2010, 11:21 AM Your list looks perfect! Only thing I might add would be the dual shock hoop and dual Bilsteins, but its not required.
Dawg2500HD 01-18-2010, 11:21 AM You might want to add the HD Sway Bar End Links. Just call Nick and he'll set you up with everything you need.

I never thought about that. I never like the idea of running blocks, but 1" shouldn't be a problem. I want it to sit level, maybe the front just a tad higher but definitly not the rear higher than the front.

This is a stupid question, but i'm asking anyway. Wouldn't you only need swaybar end links when you running swaybar??
CAJUNBOWTIE 01-18-2010, 07:23 PM Get the sway bars!!!!!!! Get the rear underbed swaybar. Get long travel air bags. Get a MagHytec rear cover. Get traction bars.
 easy now. LOL. Actually I was thinking about airbags for the rear for when pulling the boat or trailer loaded down with 4 wheelers. Dont the deavers sag a good bit with a load on it??
varty yo 01-18-2010, 07:52 PM yes they are pretty much a half ton spring. they sag. mine have settled out probly an inch since i installed them. im gonna get some bags this spring. a pallet of stone makes it sag real bad.
JMGAZ 01-18-2010, 08:08 PM Looks like a good start

No such thing as a dumb question if you don't know the answer to it.
You already have a sway bar on the front. Do you not plan to run it? If you DO plan to run it you will either have to flip it upside down to run the stock endlinks or you can leave it as is and get the Cognito HD Endlinks. I prefer the second option as the stock endlinks look like toothpicks.
Speaking from experience, I flipped my sway bar the first time and ran the stock endlinks....they didn't last very long. Broke one within a month of install. I then flipped the sway bar back to stock and got the HD Endlinks with no problems since.

Do I need to get…
Front & rear swaybars
Not needed but great upgrade for better handling.
2-3” Carrier bearing spacer
No, your sig says CCSB, those would be for a Long Bed
Limit straps
Another nice upgrade, but not a needed item.
Tie rod sleeves
I myself suggest the HD tie rods, better over all strength end to end, not just the center section.
Differential mount conversion bracket kit
Not needed at all, this is a product for guys looking to install there cut front diff back into a stock or new lift that would use that to bolt back in.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. THANKS
Other wise sounds good.
This is a stupid question, but i'm asking anyway. Wouldn't you only need swaybar end links when you running swaybar??
You would be getting the HD sway bar end links in your kit so not needed to add again.

Your truck had the older 7" that was before the HD end links came out, now they come in the kit.

Good looking out! I like the fact that you did catch it. BUT he never said what wheel, so really you have a valid point. We still need to know the wheel.
That is good you see the difference...the new body style just needs to make sure the little details are not over looked:beerchug:

The truck you just did had them in the kit, right? Maybe you thought he bought them extra?
I havn't got the final word on that because the cross member is different so we are talking alot:(.
Dawg2500HD 01-18-2010, 10:54 PM Yes they were in there. I just assumed that he opted for them. I had no clue they were included! Thats nice though!
When you do get the final word, shoot me a price. I'm still thinking about the Rock Krawler SAS you sell though, so i'll have to decide. I have access to an axle now so i'm seriously debating

As sick as an SAS or NTBD would be, you truck is pretty perfect man, throw some gears in her!.
BigLBZPower08 01-19-2010, 12:56 AM silly question here but for those with a 7 inch lift and bigger tires did you re-gear at all?
varty yo 01-19-2010, 08:06 AM nope
CAJUNBOWTIE 01-19-2010, 08:49 AM Thanks for all the replys. I'll probably add the sway bars in there, I have about a week to decide. I can't wait to get this thing lifted. :D
slosh 01-19-2010, 09:08 AM I think he mentioned he was getting the cv
driveline
