I took my truck to the dealer for service, fuel filters and oil change, when he changed the Cat filter the thread nipple came off the truck, it will not come off the filter so he will have to cut the filter and split the top to get the threads out of the old filter. Is there something to preven this in the future?

My cat filter is always hard to come off, but never so hard the threads came off with it. I would go to cat and get a new head, or get one from Nick.

It the nipple and filter head are not damaged just reinstall. A small drop of red loctite on the nipple threads when reinstalled into the head will prevent it from happening again under normal circumstances. Nick should be able to supply a new nipple. They are removable -sounds like on the last filter change it was really tightened down by the installer or is corroded from water.

that would be my guess. the nipple is designed to come out in case you want to switch between the 2 micron and 1 micron filters as they are a different thread pitch. if the threads on the filter's side of the nipple were damaged, etc. then it would stick and cause the nipple to come out of the filter head instead of the filter. i always put a little blue loctite on them when i ship them out.. red works better but is harder to get off should you ever need to. its also possible they cross-threaded it when they put the filter on, or that the filter's threads were damaged making it a tight fit. kind of hard to say w/o actually seeing it.
you didn't try to put the 1 micron filter on the nipple meant for the CAT or vice-versa did you (them)?

Looks like there was a small bit of corrosion, they were able to remove the nipple and install the new filter, this gets me to think maybe it would be a good idea to keep a spare or better yet get the 1 micron filter setup, Maybe Nick could provide me the cost of a new nipple for the Cat and a new nipple for the 1 micron w/filter.
