2 questions. Does anyone have a Duetz DX130 and what are they like, (pros and cons)? Does anyone farm in Missouri and what is it like??? Found a farm for sale and was interested. What is it like farming out there? Its a 320 acre dairy farm. Thanks.

There are lots of Dairy's around here that still run Duetz tractors. They seem to be well liked, and not too bad to work on. Clutches seem to be an issue with loader work as they wear out fast, compaired to wet clutch tractors. Parts are $$ usually and often have to come from Europe in some cases.

No exp with the other you mentioned.

Deutz tractors are not bad,but IMO dont cotton well with haying and bale feeding cause of the aircooling system needing constant cleaning(PITA).
Also the front axle support is held on with only 4 bolts to the engine,I seen a few where the bolt holes in the suports casting broke out.

I done dairy for 25 yrs,I grew up in it and never new any better. Its a 24/7/365 job.
I'm glad i switched to other livestock, i dont miss it one bit, espessially having to get up at 4 am every damn day and work till 8-9 pm with no letup.Summers are tougher yet with haying and fieldwork on top.

But hey, give it a try,you might like it.

Just to clear this up, I have been doing dairy for years now (can't even remember how many) I am no stranger to the 24/7 lifestyle. My question wasn't about the dairy aspect of MO farming, but more or less what the soil is like, what kind of tecniques are used that sort of thing. And the Duetz is one of 3 tractors going with the farm but the other ones I was already familiar with. Thanks for all the input anyway.

Thanks for the info, yeah right now we do all no-till on 500acres. The owner of the farm acted like I was from outer space when I asked him if he did no-till, he also acted like AI for the cows is unheard of in MO. I'm flying out on saturday into st. louis to check out the farm.

hmm thats strange we AI prolly 150 heifers every year thought it was getting pretty big
he just may be an ol timer just doing it like his daddy taught him and a guy can admire that

For what it cost to AI vs buyin a good bull and getting it home i would say it was $$$ ahead to AI at least it used to be dont know how it is now. I noticed you not herd a lot on deutz tractors that should be a good clue as to if its what you need I see more red tractors out of the great state of MO Tractor pulling so it must be brand of choice.
