Whats the procedure in removing the ashtray?

If you mean the cup holder area, it just pulls out.

Open the tray, pull up and out on the metallic lining. There is a clip on the bottom of plastic frame in the back. Push that down on the inside of the frame with a screw dirver and it will swing down. It I recall right the hinged is pop rivited in place.
