I just replaced my IP about 4,000 mile ago, but kept the old one. So now I'm wondering what to do with it. Here are the numbers off the tag H6 DS4831 5288 Model # 8599998 12558156 it also has a sticker dated 8-12-96. Can these be rebuilt or even better turned-up to make more power? I also have the PMD, is there a way to test it? If it's ok I can keep it as a back up. If nothing else I will keep it for sentimental reasons. I like to keep all the stuff I break as conversion pieces when buddys come over and we're having a beer or two or more.

Probably a 34264 PMD, and if it worked before, it will work as a spare.
12-96 was a looong timeago....
Can it be rebuilt? Certainly, but why? Do you just want to keep an extra pump for a spare? It won't be cheap to rebuild either, and it has virtually no value for sale.
You should clean it up a bit and put it on the mantle, and have your buddies over for some beers :beerchug:

Dieselspecialists, whose diesel forum I also post on, charges $600 for a DS-4 core charge.
Sell it on ebay for $20, it might save some one some cash.

Yeah, every fuel shop charges a core charge, but call them and ask what they will give for a 5288 core.
We can buy 5521 cores for about 20 bucks a pop, and as many as we can store.

It will make a good boat anchor. Even if it got snagged and broke off you still aint lost nothin

That would work, its a large for a paper weight, but makes a good door prop.
If you've got torx bits (10, 15, 25, 27, 40), 3/16 and 1/4" allen, a hammer (for the 3/16 allen bolts) and 1/2, 9/16, 3/4" wrenches, a pair of diagonal cutters and snap ring pliers, you can take the whole thing apart.....and then throw it away ;)
EDIT:
Oops, one more thing, you'll need a 7/8" 6 point socket for the drive hub, and either an air gun or rig some way to hold the shaft still, like a wrench on the inside driveshaft, then the hammer to take the hub off since your not worried about damaging it.

Diesel270 true but then I would lose a reason to have buddies over and drink beer;) . I think I'll just keep it and like TDG said take it a part just for the fun of it.

If you do try it, just let me know if you get to something that you can't figure out or get loose.
