I read another post that said the owner's manual states that when towing with the ZF-6, not to tow in 6th gear. Is this true? I haven't found it in my owner's manual, and currently tow my 5000# camper in 6th when possible. It pulls with no strain at all. Is the tranny not up to the task???? Thanks

Well, since I posted this I found in the owner's manual where it states that it is "BETTER" not to tow in 6th gear. Does anyone besides me use 6th when towing? Any bad results??? Thanks

I guess I never looked at the owners manual but I used 6th all the time pulling much larger loads than 5k. I just use the tach and use the appropriate gear for the right RPM's. Can't go 75mph pulling a load in 5th on the flat land...gotta pull 6th.

I'm with duramaxedout! I alway pull my 5er in 6th. So far so good. My truck is barely broke in though, it only has 120k miles. :)

The loads I've pulled were always into 6th. Never saw any ill effects other than she loses power alot easier, but duh, that's part of pulling life! The only thing I could POSSIBLY see is if you put too much power through the clutch with that much resistance through the driveline due to load, you could potentially slip the clutch, but I don't see that happening too easy.

I always use 6th pulling 5K.

I use 6th regardless.Even when towing 15k lbs in the hills.It does great when over 60mph,when under that 5th is probably best.

Tow in whatever gear seems to tow the best. If it is 3rd, or 6th, it don't matter as long as you don't lug the engine too much.

I believe they are both 0.75:1.

Kind of off topic but how does the 6th gear on the ZF compare to the new 6-speed ally's 6th gear?
