another tuner question, haha, but ill give a lil more question than whats the best:)
ok, 2005 CC auto. duramax sb...ill be pulling a 10,000lb load about once a week, and that is not a trans. worry, regular 2500 gasser handles it good.. my cousin is driving a 04 powerstroke w\ edge J\A, intake, and exhaust...im wanting to beat that, preferbly w\out trans. modifications, but will if necessary ):h ...i would not use any proggrammer while pulling the trailer.... w\ that info what would be the best?
Edge J|A (w\ or w\out Predator)? Banks 6-gun? Pacific P Hot Xcelerater? Bullydog dominator? or extreme? WHAT DO I NEED...haha..also, besides the J|A and Predator, which others will stack....it has cold air intake, 4 in exhaust, and 5in tip...one more question, does a 6 in tip sound any diff. than a 5in tip.....
Sorry for the long post, but thats what this is for right?:) ...thanks

Thanks! Now I'm friggin' blind.
Do some searching and you'll find the limitations on what the tranny can hold and at what point it will start to limp.

The Predator is still a great "bang for the buck" in my opinion. I would really like to try a J/A combo for heavy towing. I think the EGT backdown would be a welcome feature.
My advice? Get gauges. Then don't add anything more than a small tune (~40-50 RWHP) on a stock transmission.
When towing heavy, none of the big tunes are suitable, as all of them fuel too much and cause excessive EGTs. Although I do have stock exhaust, I can't pull much of anything with my Predator set over "65" because EGTs get out of hand too easily.

Has anyone run a comparison test to see which box or tuner runs the coolest egt's for towing?
this should give the fastest most consistent grade pull without a defueling device or lifting of the throttle because of high temps....:ro)

I am kinda in the same situation....So if I dont want to have to upgrade the tranny then maybe go with the Edge EZ, Cold air or "swiss" the airbox, 4in. exhaust, and gauges?

Van Aaken
The Van Aaken wont throw your tranny in "limp" mode?
This is my only concern....I drive on the road alot and dont wanna be stuck and trying to find a dealer to help me out.
That is why I was going with the 65Hp EZ. I heard that it wouldn't hurt the tranny at all.

You probably would be tempted to abuse your truck with the VA. Go with the Edge EZ if you are concerned about the tranny.

My #1 Concern!
I like the attitude but again I would be tempted to push it more if i had it!
I will just go with some gauges on the pillar and be happy.

Will the Edge EZ improve fuel economy mpg also??? I just bought an '05 Crew cab D/A long bed 4x4 and had heard that increased mpg is possible with some of these tuner units.

You can see improved fuel economy if you keep your foot out of it with a tuner or programmer.
