I just bought a Superchip programmer and will tow about 5800lbs. probably on the first stage. I may install a temp guage to monitor the EGT. I know it depends on the pull on the truck as to the temp readings, but I am wondering if anyone can tell me how significant the temps rise or how careful I need to be in stage 1 and 2 (close to the recommended limit on 2)?? I dont need to romp on it a lot, mostly to pass. I hope this isnt to vague of a question. Im just trying to get a feel for how drastic the temps will be on this weight of a load? I just cheezed the airbox, but am choking on $700 for the exhaust, so to speak. Thanks!!! Frank  (I know it will help,,do I really need it??)

delete the muffler, or install a performance one in its place. Otherwise I wouldnt tow with it EGT's will go through the roof

You really need an EGT gauge if you are going to tow with a chip, heck even stock in my case. When towing with mine stock, the EGT's were through the roof towing in the mountains. Added a box with the stock exhaust made it a little worse. Got a TTS exhaust system on it, and the hottest I have seen is 1200 towing in the mountains over Memorial Day. You can leave the stock exhaust on if you want, just be prepared to ease up a bit if your EGT's get a little too hot.

Youv'e got to pay to play... Or you will pay later and in the worst way. Guages are not a must but ideal, exhausts should be required to run tunes with and should be your next choice to spend that hard earned cash on.

What will happen if the EGT's get too high. I was towing a 3,600 lb trailer through the mountains a few weeks ago with the Hypertech on Level 3. I have NO gauges. What's the worst thing that could happen and how likely is it to happen with a relatively light trailer? :help2:

Liquify the motor.
I ran stock exhaust for 6 months and was towing 14-15,000 w/ the juice on level 1 mostly but level 2 some.
Never saw above 1400*

What is the danger zone? What would you expect to see from a STOCK truck under normal load?

I think the melting point of pure Aluminum is 1221 deg F, not sure of the aluminum alloy heads.

I tow 8000# regular w/ juice attitude on level 3 #2("carb" low fuel boost)
Never seen above 1200* pulling hard and accelerating fast.

I have an LB7 with the Edge, K&N, stock Exhaust...... Towing my 13,000 LB boat on the X-way around 70mph on (level 1, low boost 1), I avg 1000°. If I'm cruising and spike it, temps will get near 1300°. When I go to the Stock setting, I don't see much of a difference. I would NEVER tow my big boat in anything over level one, expecially with a stock exhaust. As for non-towing, there are no problems with EGT's that I have seen yet. If I run 5/5, they will climb fast if I'm "playing", but that's just for a short time and I have never had it defuel (set @ 1350°).
If I could find a 4" pipe that would be as quiet as stock, I'd buy it. I don't want the noise. Until then, I'll keep the stock one.
