Hey guys I am a new Duramax owner,well not new,new to me,its a 2001 with
178,000 mi,after reading on here about injectors I have become paranoid,I have been watching my oil level and it only appears to be maybe 1/8 of an inch high but I get a bit of a fuel odor.

My question is how obvious is it when you get fuel in your oil and typically
how much does it come up on your dipstick.

The truck seems to run fine aside from my idle surge which I assume is the fpr,it does seem to be a bit louder but I am not sure if its the paranoia kicking in.

Thanks

If you have a cracked injector body or similar, your oil level will increase by a greater amount fairly quickly. Oil pressure will also fall with diluted oil. Lots of light throttle driving can reduce how fast fuel makes oil raise due to lower rail pressures. keep watching your oil level, when it adds fuel to the oil, you will know it.

Does leaking injectors normally trigger an ses light as well?

Also when the truck serges at idle the oil pressure gauge flickers a bit like something electrical,I have also noticed it flicker at highway speeds,is this common with fpr,or is it possible something else is causing my surge.

when my injectors went, i was naucious inside the cab from diesel fumes, and the truck was shaking. I also was worried i'd be low on oil for some reason, and when I bought more oil, I took the oil cap off, and oil was shooting out the fill neck. I guess this was because all the fuel in there that it was over filled.

Well I dumped my oil when I got home from work today just and got 13 liters out of it,concidering the truck only holds 9.5 liters,I think its safe to assume I have an injector problem!!!!

Now I have to determine the most economical way to fix this?

So much for my good deal on a used Duramax!

That does not mean you got a bad deal.
Granted your going to spend some money to fix your truck. But how about the rest of it.
If you can I would do it yourself. You will save alot. If you look in the DIY section their are several threads that show how to change the injectors.

Yes I know now that I calmed down a bit its not that bad. What I am trying to decide now is whether to go new or re man injectors. My local GM dealer is quoting $3300. in parts (new injectors) and approx $1000. labour.I found a injector super kit on E-Bay from Pensacola diesel which includes 8 re man injectors with new Bosch tips,8 glow plugs,o-rings,clips,valve cover gaskets etc. for $1300 US,any one have some recommendations for me,unfortunately I just do not have the time to do it my self so my GM dealer will be doing the repair regardless.

So far from what I am seeing (searching now as I need to do mine too) Bosch and stay as far away from Pensecola Diesel's injectors.

Yes,I did some searching also, and I am going to go Bosch which is what my gut was telling me in the first place.

Thanks
