: MAP Sensor???

I ran an OBD ii scan because I had a SES light and got the error code P0236 which leads me to believe i have a bad MAP sensor. There seems to be some confusion over whether it's a MAP sensor or boost sensor. NAPA has both parts listed but every other website I visit only has the MAP sensor. The price difference is only about $15 and I'm not trying to penny pinch, I just want to install the right part. FYI, I am not experiencing any major problems with the vehicle other than it being sluggish up hill when the engine is cold. My vehicle info is in my signature. I did not fill out a diagnostic checklist because I am not looking for a diagnosis, although diagnostic suggestions are welcome. I just am confused by what this part is called.

get the numbers off the part in the intake manifold (rectangular black box)and have them compare. I believe they are one and the same part (map/boost sensor)

Yes, cross-referencing your current part is a good idea.

There are at least 2 (maybe more ?) different, common MAP sensors used in a wide variety of GM applications: 2 bar & 3 bar (calibrated to accurately read a pressure range of 2 bar, & 3 bar, respectively). Except part #'s, they're made in the same shell & look pretty much the same.

I would try cleaning the MAP sensor before spending the money to replace it. Sometimes they get a little dirt, or oil on them ( from oiled air filter ) and it causes them to code. A can of MAP sensor cleaner is less than $7.00. I just fixed my brother's Ferd with a MAP sensor code by cleaning it.

before you damn the map sensor for a 0236 check out boost diagnostics in my signature.
