What is the pmd and where do I relocate it to. Im new to 6.5 does anybody have a pic thanks. Is It nessasary to have a egt and boost gauge on a bone stock 98 vin f truck? I will be using the truck to pull light things around maybe 6k max I will use the d-max for heavy towing. I will take any advice on things to do to the truck to make it last longer but I dont want to increase power at all. It is going to be the daily driver dont want to fix it all the time.

Increasing power helps fuel milage as long as you keep your foot off the floor. Look through the stickies, lots of good info there and then search those mods and you can find ways to do lots of them cheap.

PMD is located on the IP. It is not obvious since it is under the manifold but it is on the driver side. It is just a small black box, there are pix here and at the bay on how it is mounted on the IP. You can search here, there are a lot of thread about it and in the sticky.

Where does it relocate to? Most people move it to the bumper. You don't have to take out the old one to do it. Just buy another one complete with an extension cable and heatsink. Mount the PMD to the heatsink and fasten the heatsink anywhere outside the engine compartment. It is not a mechanical part so it does not matter where it is located.

I hope this help.

If you're gonna do something, get a new exhaust on it. Even if you don't want more power, it will help it breath better, so better mileage which will really help when towing.

I believe the vin "F" (no EGR) is the 190/430 but not positive. there is sometimes a sticker on one of the valve covers that has some of the engine specs on it. (mine has one but can'y recall if it is the 190/430 or not)

You could always run a vin check request and that will give you alot of info about the original equipment in the truck (I think it does anyhow)

The pmd is the "brain" of the injection pump (ip). To locate it, follow the coolant line to the top of the motor, just as it turns toward the front at the front deiver side of the motor look into the top of the motor under the intake. it is a black (deck of cards sized) box that a harness will be comming out of toward the back of the vehicle. I had problems with mine and so did my friends. If you are not having stalling problems than your pmd should be fine (usually stalls when hot but sometimes whenever) if you do need one, to make sure, when it stalls try pouring water on it. if it starts you may ahve issues with it. I took a longer route and eliminated anything that may cause stalling (lift pump, new filters, new fuel, gas cap, cleaned the tank, resolved all codes etc.) The recomended is heath, garenteed for 7 years and worth the money. if you dont have the cash there are a couple of places that i have purchased from that are cheaper and ahvent had a problem with. Be wary though, there are lots out there that are used and DO NOT WORK. There is a place in quebec canada that sells used tested ones ( i have bought four for friends) that are reliable. (newest one is like 2 years old and still no problems so well tested.) As for relocation, i took an old amplifier and pasted mine to the heatsink and relocated it under the grill to the driver side behind the marker lights. (i'm in deep water alot) most put it under the front bumper but this didn't work for me (more water). Check the stickies at the top and you will have everything you need. If you dont want to fix it all the time than get to know it and listen cause it will tell you when it needs stuff.
