So I figured since we have a new forum I'd start by posting up a rig pic's thread :D.
Here's what I had and it's in pieces currently :(. Started like as a 67 K10. Had/had a D60 front,Eaton rear with Detroit No-Spin,SBC 350 with a 4spd/np205. Lift in front comes from 6" Alcan springs and custom drop hangers and in the rear I run reversed 79 Ford F250 springs and a shackle flip. It had 37" Toyo M/T's. Sometime when I find the time it's going back together with a few changes like 5.13 gears,a front locker and 39.5" Iroks. Possibly a 203/205 doubler or a Stak Monster box :)

'78 Big-10 Stepside w/ BBC 454 on the propane/SM465/AtlasIV (w/ 10.3:1 low-low), Dana 60/Dana 70HD both w/ Detroits and 4.56:1 gears. Longfield CV shafts in the 60, full hydro, 1410 42deg cv on front driveshaft, antiwrap bars front and rear. 44/19.5/16.5 Grooved Boggers wrapped around recentered H1's w/ pvc inserts.

This was at Trees ranch. The 350 sure gave it hell! Snapped the slip shaft on the front drive shaft, and the drivers side shaft in the 70HD. :D

I recognize that obstacle. That is the crevice in RC Penn is it not? I broke my Ford withen 3 hrs last time i was down there and could not repair it "sheared the teeth off the 9" ring and pinion and twisted both axles idling in 1st gear". There is alot of traction in those rocks!!!! I started building an S-10 with rockwells but have given up for now. The rest of the guys in my club are now running rockwells and they break those everytime they go to RC.

01-22-2010, 11:43 AM
Hmmm, you went to the 6.0 huh. I had plans of sticking with the 4.3 for less weight and with 6.72 gears i didnt think i would run out of power, just rpm. If i ever get this thing done it will have a fresh 700R4 and the NP-208 transfer case. With this trans/transfer case combo and the axles it should be plenty low enough for crawling. Other fella's in my club as well as myself run on a budget and we have found these peices to be fairly strong when running Rockwells. Obviously the axles are taking all the stress away from the driveline. I figured if i did break it these parts are laying in alot of backyards all over the country so it wouldnt be hard or expensive to fix when away from home.

Here's my cheap Jeep, a '80 CJ5. It's not a cheap Jeep like on tv where they spend 10-20k on the rig. I have less than $3k in this one. It's not perfect, but it is very capable and fun. :) Highlights of it are: 38.5 TSLs, Toyota axles with spring over locked front and rear and Toy rear springs (brings the rear back 6"), hydro assist steering, roll cage, stereo, buttons, switches and knobs and a bunch of fab work done by me and a buddy of mine. :) It''s still a work in progress, but's it is a lot of fun. :thumb:

I should clarify that the one of the "BlackMax" and trailer isnt my REGULAR wheeler. It is in fact my rig when I was hauling commercially for a drilling and blasting company.

That is the last time I mudded my truck like that. I spent close to 8 hours hosing out the frame after that job. Now its the jeep (and atv) that get the beatings....lol

The hard part is usually not going into or through the hole, its going up hill and out of it at the other end and you've dug yourself down. Front end starts to go up, hitch goes down, and you're dragging anchor.

not as extreme as the rest but its alot more articulated than appears, was hard to get a good angle but it was fun, also hard to get a good shot when it just you and your dogs and i dont know about you but they dont seem very interested in taking a pic or even watching for that matter:help2: ,lol funny story the day before this i was going to the performance shop and snapped my sway bar end link on a speed bump (over torque :laugh_exp oops) then i go out on the oil field roads shed huntin and huntin for fossils and shit like that and not even a loose bolt lol.

Needless to say, some a$$hole in a Ford hit it head on and totaled the truck, Toyota drove away and still runs... Ford... no longer in existence.

I work with a bunch of Jeepers in West Chester), I was the only girl wheeling that day out of 8 guys... Needless to say, I didn't leave 2wd that whole day, even got to pull out a few Jeeps here and there :)
