: 2010 truck with LML
ejc1214 01-10-2010, 03:03 PM I just ordered a 2010 truck that will come with the new LML engine since my dealer could not find a white DRW 4x4 LTZ thru his network.
I wonder will I have the new power 400/700 that everyone is talking about or the 365/650 that the 2010 had? I wonder if these will be known as 2010.5 like the 2004.5 LLY engines.
Anyone have any ideas? Also, the new engine is supposed to use urea as additive at every fill up or is it like the European cars that have a separate holding tank to mix it as needed?
vettelovralexand 01-10-2010, 03:06 PM The urea is not something you will mix with fuel as an additive. It will most certainly be in a separate holding tank and I can only imagine that GM will put a large enough tank for urea that it will last much longer than a tank of fuel.
chevyguy71 01-10-2010, 03:23 PM Where do you live? My dealer here has one.

ejc1214 01-10-2010, 06:48 PM I am in NC.
Truck looks good but too far. Would have loved the low financing!

tvfrfireguy 01-11-2010, 01:10 AM I was unaware that you can order the lml at this time. I called a dealer that I have delt with in the past and they knew nothing of the prices and don't have a clue. Not suprising as we are in a time zone four hours west. If you find out that the truck you ordered is indead a LML, please let me know. I am wanting to order the LML dually. Thanks

dont know how much it will hold but it does have a seperate tank and if you run the urea to low, it will throw the truck into limp mode and you wont be able to drive over 5mph untill you fill up again. sucks huh?

Same here. All the dealers here dont have a clue as to when these are even coming in.
haulin-rv 01-11-2010, 06:23 PM From what I have read a semi will have an approx capacity of 20 gallons and a tank of DEF is supposed to last about the length of an oil change. It will also be sold in jugs like oil so it'll be pretty easy to carry some along.
I found a consumption calculator and if you drive 15,000 miles a year avg 16 mpg you'll use approx 19 gallons of DEF.

ejc1214 01-12-2010, 12:00 AM I was told by the truck sales manager that GM stopped production of the LMM and now is only doing LML engines. My truck, he said, will have the urea tank and it is only in the LML engine. I think they will do a 2010.5 like they did in 2004.5 and 2007.5. I called hi today and asked him to double check as I am reading about hp/tq gains also and wanted to really be sure I was getting that LML. I will find out soon for sure and than post.

Harleydude 01-13-2010, 12:46 AM From what im told, there won't be any built for the next couple of months.. Ya might want to double check with your dealer. I think you are being "wahoo'ed". They did get a down payment right??
ejc1214 01-13-2010, 04:13 PM No down payment. I deal with them all the time. They bought my two trucks and paid me out right and then we will do separate deal for new truck.

The pickup urea will be under hood, much like a washer fluid fill. Van will be different. And it should be about the length of oil change as one other person said.

I would imagine the 2011s are still a little ways off...I couldnt see taking orders this early, but I guess anything is possible.
Pwrfactor 01-13-2010, 09:47 PM I work at GM powertrain in Defiance, Ohio. We are the only plant that casts the Duramax block. The new LML block wont start to be poured for a few more months.

And then it usually takes a couple more months once trucks begin to build to make their way to dealer lots
ejc1214 01-14-2010, 11:24 PM Here is what I finally found out form dealer as there was some confusion. Mine will be a 2010 and will have the LMM engine and getting built on the 25th of this month. They thought that it had the LML and that is not the case. The new trucks won't be built unti mid summer, July or so. So I guess I better move to the LMM forum section and find out about the engine! Oh, he did say that there will probably be an exhaust brake on the 2011. That is the latest.
Harleydude 01-15-2010, 12:43 AM Well, once again it looks as though the thread knows more than the dealerships!!
Wasn't trying to "spin" anybody up, this just confirms that ya might want to go here for info first. This place is great!
ejc1214 01-15-2010, 08:39 AM You got that right!

Pwrfactor 01-26-2010, 01:48 AM The plant manager at my plant (Defiance Powertrain) that is the only plant that pours the Duramax told us that we wont start pouring the new LML until April. He said the new LML won't be at the showroom floor until June.

It Will last the length of an oil change, but the tank is on the drivers side of the frame and about 5 or 6 gallons,it will start telling you it's low around 1000 miles to empty....
I seen pictures of it But I can't remember where right now :~(
the fill spout is located under the Hood, Not the Tank......
Ford has there's beside the Diesel fill spout on the side, they just made the Hole Bigger to hold Both....
Seann 01-28-2010, 01:53 PM From what I have read so far they may be using 8 gallon tanks. Urea will sell for about $2.75 a gallon.... I can see a lot of guys just peeing in the tank.....
socaldiesel 01-28-2010, 03:49 PM 8 Gallons of pee, that's a lot of beer. I'm game!
jdreck 02-06-2010, 07:07 PM for the 2010 model year there is no duramax option LmL will be available for 2011 trucks

Apparantly there are sensors that can tell if anything other then urea is in the tank believe it or not.
greif03lb7 02-06-2010, 07:28 PM new trucks arent worth buying if you have to add all this extra stuff to make them run what a joke and they say better mpg in the lml doubt it.

Fuel economy and power should improve with urea SCR. These engines will run cleaner with less EGR, and the urea system will not cost any power or fuel economy. In a diesel, EGR robs horsepower and m.p.g..

That said, will the LML have an EGR?
Ted White 03-24-2010, 10:49 PM One of the major reasons why the fuel economy has improved is GM's claim that the interval between regenerations has been extended by 75% due to lower soot accumulations with the new emissions system. Regen uses extra fuel, so the savings go towards improvements in mpg.
65turboman 03-25-2010, 09:22 PM That said, will the LML have an EGR?
Yes it will have EGR. It sounds like it should get better fuel mileage than the LMM. Time will tell.
Ted White 03-25-2010, 10:18 PM The description of the GM system indicates less exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) than in the 2007 thru 2010 models because the urea treatment eliminates a lot of the NOX which was dealt with by EGR on the 2007 thru 10 models.
