Would Getting a wider rim such as a M/T classic II 8" help tire wear significantly?

I've ran these on various trucks and rims for years now. the best mileage I have got out of a set was on a 1996 3/4ton 4x4, over 80,000 Miles before I sold the truck and I would have guessed that the tires would have had about 25-30% tread left on em. They were on the stock steel rim and 35lbs pressure, would bump up to 50lb when towing heavy loads.
