Well I now have the best truck I have ever driven. I love this thing. But now I want to keep her nice. Thanks to this site I have just changed the rear diff and saved myself $50 bucks. Lets see if you can help me save more.

1. Oil filter-I have a black one on there and I saw the GM site that is selling a blue filter for 2004 models. Are the filters the same for the 2005's?

2. Front diff. I have a white cap on there. Are both the drain and the refill plugs on the side of the left front tire? What is the reason for the long rubber tube on both the front and the rear diff's.

3. Transfer case. I have read a prior post that was talking about the tape on the bolts. Confirm both the drain and the refill are facing the back tires?

4. Transmission. The book said to just change the filter (I have 3000 miles). What type of fluid to just top it off? Transynd??

Just as a disclaimer: I have read all the other threads and I could not find my answers. I hope this is in the correct section its my first time.

Thank you for all your help. Because of you guys my 3 year old and I had a blast changing the rear diff. Chris

1. Yes, they're all the same. BEWARE. The factory puts those oil filters on TIGHT.

2. Yes, they're both on the driver's side. The vent tubes give you clearance to go through high water.

3. Teflon tape helps to seal the drain plugs after you reinsert them after you drain & replace the fluid. Both plugs are at the rear of the transfer case.

4. I would just use any dexron III fluid since you'll need less than a quart to change the filter. Don't forget to remove, clean & replace the donut magnet on your old trans filter.

BTW,:welcome:

Sounds like my boy; he's 2 1/2 and under the truck with me changing the rear end, front diff and T-case fluids last weekend!

I made the mistake of removing the plug on the bottom of the t-case thinking it was the drain --- oops. Quick call the local dealer and its reinstalled and no probs. If you do this, the order to reinstall is:
bullet - spring - threaded plug
This is the 'indent' for the t-case shifter.
