it was -20 to -30 last night and i had it plugged in from about 0100 to 0630 this morning.

i got a ride to work because it was just to f'in cold to drive it this morning.

i just got home and its about 6deg out and decided to try and start my truck. i went out cycled the glow plugs a few times and it turned over slow.

the truck would try to start (spit and sputter) but wouldn't. i tried a few times and gave up.

i have it plugged in right now and will try in a bit.

synthetic oil 5w-30

batteries are only a few years old. there orbitals

fuel was fresh from a truck stop just last week. i put stanadyne winter 1000 in it.

fuel filters are brand new as i changed them after i had a fuel clouding problem a few weeks back..

shit like this makes me want to ditch the diesel and get a gasser. im really beginning to not trust this damn thing..

wonder if i should tear off that damn nicktane system?

i just dropped 400$ on a raptor lift pump to help out in the winter time.

This post is a sham, I mean with global warming and all!

No really,

Might just be the batteries, I would try jumping it off before I totally gave up.

Just an opinion

i guess today ill disconnect both batteries and load test them.

ever since i bought them the passenger side battery cables would come loose every now and again. i usually check them when im under the hood and just recently did.

i asked the dealer that i got them from and he told me that those were the correct models for my truck.just seem like they dont tighten up very much

Just curious, are they the Red tops? I thought that was the proper Optima to have in a vehicle.

i had nothing but problems with optima red tops... switched to a yellow top and never had a problem again. (this was in the vette)

Run a red top in the racecar (no alternator) for over 3 years and never a glitch. Made sure it had a good charge befor the weekend is all. Was going to buy a second to match and put in the truck.

Have you checked out all the glow plugs, maybe a relay or the bus bar has rusted out?

thanks for the replys guys. i load tested my batteries this morning and they both would produce about 600CCA's and 11.2 volts while under load.

i called napa where i got them from and they wanted me to bring them down. they tested them and they both failed.

im waiting for my replacement red tops to arrive from the warehouse.

im out of the 2 year replacement warranty by 8 days. ended in december...

Now Optima dopped their repl warranty to 2 years???
Makes sense, they lost alot of $$ from me. Had a Red top that would crap out every 2- 2-1/2 years. Did it 3 times, got 3 free batteries under the 3yr warranty. It's about 1-1/2 yrs old now, guess I better start battery shopping.
Optimas are junk!!!

well i got the 2 new ones installed. they guy did me a favor and warrantied them for me and didnt charge me (saved me 50$)

should i go with yellow tops next time?

i always thought optimas were good batteries.

just to clarify my old batteries were not optimas, they were excide orbitals (excides version that napa used to carry)

napa doesnt carry them anymore so they warrantied me into the optima red tops.
