I'm getting ready to replace my turbo on my 01 the reason being is i have a barring going out on it right now. I'm replacing with stock turbo i was just wanting to know if there is anything i can do to the stock turbo before i put it on "performance wise"? Also should i replace my stock down pipe, I'm not sure who makes them or where to look but i might be interested. I think I'm going to tackle the install my self does anyone have any pointers for an average mechanic. also i need to order gaskets from the dealer but not sure what all i will need any help would be appreciated

I believe Tom, goes by "TheBac" on this forum, was going to do a port and polish job on a stock turbo. I dont know if this has been done yet, but it may be worth it to get a hold of him and get his input.

I am also interested in this. I've been wondering if swapping wheels on our turbo's was possible like with some of the other trucks out there. I haven't heard of porting/polishing a turbo before, sounds like it has potential.
Plus, I have been having trouble finding an aftermarket downpipe for my LB7. Someone HAS to make one! Right?

Thanks for the reply. I knew someone had to make one. Your link isn't functional, though. Does RDL have a website? (sorry for the hijack andersonsz71)

The PnP is still going to happen...just have to figure out who. My nephew tells me that his college auto program has done them, or there is a place called Crucial Racing that I contacted last year...but never followed through after he replied. They both told me that its basically polishing the interior of the compressor (not around the wheel area, though), a major porting of the turbine housing, and then coating the halves with themal coating (turbine to keep heat in, compressor to get rid of heat).
Jeff (JST) and Vaz (DmaxVaz) have done some work on stock LB7 turbos with good results. Then there's the Danville Custom LB7 chargers if you want ot go hogwild.
I also made my own 3.5" downpipe using the OEM flange. I had mocked it up on a bench, and got it close but when I fit it, it was just off. I have to tweak the pipe so it'll fit.
Rick's downpipe is a quality piece, though. His website: http://profabperformance.com/jm/

Tony(Horsehaulin) has my stg1 LB7 charger on his ride right now maybe he could chime in on it. Seems to have made a good difference in performance over the stock piece.
