: 2009 LMM trans falling on its face when shifting
kunz111 01-06-2010, 06:14 PM Hey I have a 2009 Dmax cc/sb that has 1800 miles on it, and this morning when I was driving to work I thought I would get on it and go from a dig. So first get I get on it pretty hard, not floored cause I didnt wanna break them loose, but once it shifted into second gear I did put it to the ground and then when it tried to shift outta second it fell on its face and it seems like its trying to shift, but cant so I got out of it asap. Drove fine after that. So I really didnt know what to think of it so I tried the samething again coming home from work, the truck is fully warmed up and the trans temp is about 100. I did the exact samething as before and it did the samething as in the morning. So I tried getting on it a little, worked fine. Then I got on it quite a bit, not floored but im on the pedal pretty hard, still works fine. It seems like when im to the floor it does it. So is the trans suppost to do that? Can the trans just not handle the torque the Dmax puts out or is there something wrong with my tranny? Thanks for all of your help
Jeff
P.S. My truck is 100% stock. I need to update my sig.
Carl Lassiter 01-06-2010, 06:37 PM Sounds like you got some bad fuel and need to replace the fuel filter. Very unlucky after just 2,000miles.
One other thing which may sounds dumb but you sure it wasn't in manual shift mode mode?
If this doesn't fix things then you may have a more serious issue. 99.9% of the time the Allison 1000 performs supremely and handles the LMMs 660lb/ft with ease.

Hahaha ya im sure it wasnt in manual mode, but you maybe right about the fuel. I did just get a new tank of fuel 2 days ago, and this is the first time I have gotten on it hard with the new tank of fuel. So if I replace the filter, should I wait until the tank is gone and just baby the hell outta my truck? Or should I replace the filter now and drain the fuel?

That's your call :). I'd play it safe personally but a lot more hassle.
Don't forget to drain the water/fuel separator found under the truck too.
kunz111 01-06-2010, 07:46 PM Is there really any way of telling if thats it without replacing the filter?
Where about and how do I do that? Sorry im a newbe :( But I wanna make sure I do things the right way.
kunz111 01-07-2010, 12:52 AM I went out and did somemore messing around with it. And from a roll its fine it shifts through all of the gears above 2nd gear, but when I try and go from a dig and have it shift through second it falls on its face once again. Could it be cause its really cold here in MN even though the trans and engine are fully warmed up?(trans temp at about 100 and engine at 210). The temps around here are highs in the mid single digits and lows as low as -15 out.
heymccall 01-07-2010, 01:05 AM Does "stability control" control wheelspin?
kunz111 01-09-2010, 01:33 AM I have traction control off when I do these runs. But I dont know if that matters.

Might just be a gelled fuel filter. Since your in Minnesota, if you filled with some biodiesel without adding some extra anti-gel additive the filter is more than likely gelled. I had this problem here in Illinois two years ago. I'd be driving and if it went above 2000rpm the truck fell on its face and wouldn't shift properly. If you have a garage you could pull it in and use a hair dryer to heat up the filter and try and melt away the ice inside.
Since all the diesel in Illinois has some bio, I double dose with anti-gel in the winter months and haven't had the problem since.

if you just pressed the button, you didnt completely disable stabilitrak.
pressing the button only disables traction control; in order to disable VSES (stabilitrak) you have to press and HOLD the button for like 5 seconds until the DIC says "stabilitrak OFF" (not just "traction control off")

Maybe I did just get some shitty fuel, hmm I wonder what I should try replacing the fuel filter seeing how you are the second person to say that. Or do you guys think I should have the dealership look at it, take a tech for a drive and see what they say?

Thanks thats really good to know actually.
kunz111 01-14-2010, 08:11 PM Should I take it to the dealer and have them look at it?
BoostEEd 01-27-2010, 01:14 PM Fuel filter is cheap and easy and will cause a shift to hang at WOT.
