: looking for feedback on the edge juice w\ attutide
bultaco290 06-13-2005, 08:09 AM I would like to put a programer on my 05 GM diesel truck, I am new to diesels... from what I have read the edge has some very nice features like protection and in cab control, that is why I am going with this one....
I have seen some package deals is that the way to go
exhaust, air intack programmer ect.....
everything offroad have a 1600 package that looks pretty good, how about installation..... exhaust is that soomething that I could do at home
thanks in advance:ro)
briano 06-13-2005, 08:20 AM check out the vendors section for some of the best deals.
..and yes programmer, intake, and exhaust can all be done in your driveway. There are how-to's for just about everything in the do-it-yourself section.
good luck
C.A.P 06-13-2005, 08:58 AM make sure you get the up dated version because the old one would turbo-bark teribly and elivate the ideling speed somtimes, my brother has a 05 lly, with the old version and had to send it back to Edge for updates, you might wan't to look into the ppe (www.pacificp.com) they have a adjustable box, so does VanAAkon , and Banks, (I would try to test drive a truck with one in it before you buy)
DSTRBD 06-13-2005, 10:07 AM bultaco- Welcome to the site! Installation on Edge, intake, and Exhaust is very simple and straight forward. No special tools necessary. It is easiest to cut out your old exhaust with a sawzall, but it can be pulled out in one piece by jacking up the rear end (frame). Give us a call for a price match or better deal. Let me know if you have any questions etc.
lakingslayer 06-13-2005, 11:40 AM Also realize to play with the Edge on level 4 or 5 you'll need to get a tranny upgrade. The Edge has some tranny protection features but they aren't foolproof. The Juice with Attitude is a very nice unit and you get a lot for what you pay for with it.
NC Hauler 06-13-2005, 02:59 PM I would highly recommend the Banks systems...Gale Banks wrote the book on Diesel technology...Does research on the fuel rail pressure, transmission, turbo, etc...When I had my 2500HD D/A, I put the Stinger system on with the ottomind then upgraded to the Six Shooter with Speed Loader...Had an exhaust temp gage..turbo boost gage, 4"exhaust from header back, K&N GenII air induction...6 levels of power, none of which will "tear up" your tranny, turbo or engine...system will actually bypass itself if something SHOULD go wrong..Banks will also back you if something goes wrong and truck manufacturer tries to blame it on the upgrade...HP and Torque on 2500 before mods. 248 HP and 420ft/lb torque at rear whee...Dyno after mod at rear wheel..408HP, 835ft/lb of torque..had this on my 2500HD for over a year (13,500 miles approx), no problems towing or just "playing"..truck was a "screamer" that fooled a lot of other trucks and kids in turners.."How did that big ugly long bed ext. cab diesel truck just "dust my breeches"?
LarryJewell 06-13-2005, 03:23 PM Wouldnt 408 Hp / 835 Torque Tear Up An Allison Tranny?
lakingslayer 06-13-2005, 03:30 PM The banks on higher power levels will limp and eat the stock allison clutches and TC. None of the programmers with tranny protection can prevent damage. They only sense when damage is already happening and back off power they have added. 408hp/835 TQ is past what the stock allison can handle.
NC Hauler 06-13-2005, 07:59 PM 408HP and 835 torque at rear wheel in level 6..rarely used...no problems what-so ever with Allison..Towed in level 3 (37' 12,000lb)...approx 20,000 miles with the Banks equipment...no leaks, no added oil (used Amesoil in motor and tranny).Sometimes you just have to see it to believe it....Take truck out of OD, put in tow/haul, use 4 high long enough to "hook up", Hit the gas, er, diesel...Put more then several Hemi's to shame..as I was running, I took it out of 4 high, tow/haul and put OD back in....I'm older, but still pretty quick...transmission fine...Believe what you want to believe, but no "programmer alone is going to do all that for your truck without exhaust and intake mods as well as the CORRECT computer programming...Banks wrote the book on running Diesels and running them hard, without tearing them up......:ro)
lakingslayer 06-13-2005, 08:41 PM Beleive what you will. I ran my Juice/Attitude on various levels including 5/5 for a couple of months and then 5/5 for about a month straight before I limped the tranny. You won't tear it up but you will push it's limits. Some trannys seem to hold a bit longer than others. It's only a matter of time.
NC Hauler 06-13-2005, 10:20 PM Not going to worry about the 2500HD anymore, traded it in Friday for a 3500 CC/DW/LB/D/A LT....The owner of the place where I traded is into SPEED and he said he had the time and money to see what my truck (his now) would really do, and if it breaks, it breaks...guess thats what you can do when you have $$$$$$$$ and you own 4 different Dealerships....must be nice. I'll go back to Banks...it's the best..http://dieselplace.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif
David Schear 06-14-2005, 12:53 AM How do you take it out of 4 wheel while racing a hemi? I don't know about the 05s but on my 02, you can't change from 4 to 2 wheel until you let up on it. Simply pushing the button won't let it change under acceleration.

Nothing has changed with this from the 2002 to the 2005's.

Don't get me wrong here. I'm not bashing Banks. From what people have stated they make a nice product. Good luck with the new truck.
bultaco290 06-14-2005, 07:48 AM what kind of tranny upgrades are there:ro)

Banks will leave you stranded with warranty just like any other company. You are your own warranty station..........did they tell you this...straight up lie!-:t -:t
NC Hauler 06-14-2005, 09:19 PM Not going to argue the point that Banks would leave you stranded....you might be right...but I never had to "disconnect" or "de-program" anything when I took my truck in to get it serviced or inspected and with that, I would doubt very seriously that "Preditor (sp), Edge or the rest of the programmers out there that you just "pop" in with out doing anything to the exhaust, intake etc. would "come to your rescue"either....
funky10 07-01-2005, 06:21 AM just a note from a new diesel owner, get the edge with attitude, awsome features but make sure you get the edge Version 1.2 , you wont get surging while on cruise and the engine does not ping. Seems to have a little smoother power than the V 1.1 and V 1.0.
bdtucker 07-13-2005, 07:48 PM I ran an Edge w/ Attitude for 8 months in my 2004. 5 LLY. I also have the banks monster exhaust, AFE Stage II Intake, Rancho 4" Suspension Lift, and allot of other goodies. I ran the Edge on Level 5 every day with no tranny issues. My Issue was that on occasion the engine would simply stall and loose power over 2000 rpms. I grew weary of this and pulled the system out and installed the full "Big Hoss" package from Banks this includes the Six Gun with Speed Loader. I run my truck in level 6 all of the time, except when towing. My truck shifts smoother, runs better, you name it.....Yes, it costs more than the 899.00 Juice with Attitude but in my opinion the Banks system is in a class by itself. Take the Edge and throw it away.

bdtucker, if you are throwinng away the edge system, throw it my way, i will try it out and see what happens, perhaps you didnt have the most recent version, i dont know, but i would be more then willing to try it out for ya, "seeing how your throwin' it in the trash"
T Lars HD 09-02-2005, 10:28 AM Woo Hoo!
I needed this thread! Thanks guys! My decision is made... :ro)
Scotty Seelen 09-02-2005, 11:26 AM I'll also agree that Banks is the superior tuner, hands down.

The 'stalling' issue and no power over 2000rpm was probably thanks to a p1093.
I can tell you this; I have run both the banks lvl6/speedloader and the edge 5 (no defuel). I haven't done any back to back comparisons, 1/4 mile track times, but the edge feels a little stronger in certain spots as well as the banks. If you ask me, they're neck to neck. Only downfall to the banks is the fact you cannot adjust any features. The edge has lots of cool features that come in handy (i.e., built in gauges, alarts, no defuel options, 1/4 mile testing, etc.). Both versions of the banks(version 2) and edge(1.2) are the latest, updated versions.
If I would have to choose, I would go with door #3, Predator.
blown65 09-02-2005, 09:16 PM I've been real happy with my E/J.
I had a Predator also for a while, and the power was good, the EGT's were about 100deg higher at similar power levels. (SOTP) Sold it to keep the Edge mostly due to its ability to be changed at any givin point.
My biggest gripe with the edge is its turn on feature after a temp rise of 167 (or 180 on the old version). Now I know not to race the truck around but even still on light power stock vs lvl 3x5 really screws with shifting. Seems like a constant battle with the tranny learning. Esp true in the winter since it takes for freakin ever to get to 180. That would be my biggest reason personally to switch.
Jerry01 09-06-2005, 03:08 PM I too am real happy with the E/A. I mostly keep it on 3x5, but occasionally bump it level 4. Still haven't tried level 5 yet. I guess a little hesitant as I don't want to limp the tranny. I did change the trans from defuel all shifts to only defuel on 4&5, but it still feels like it is defueling. Does this seem right? Jerry.

Yes, I have my on no defuel and still does it.
Max Payne 09-06-2005, 06:01 PM There are two kinds of "defuel". One, is what the factory programming in the ECM does during a shift. Two, is when the Edge takes away the extra fuel it supplies during the shift. Even with the defuel turned off, the factory program still defuels. That is why you still feel it with the Edge defuel turned off.
