I have been posting many ?s lately but I have another one. I have done a few searches and i have found tons of info but not the answer i want so here goes. I have the opportunity to buy a 94 6.5 4wd with 150,000 for $900:D. Heres whats wrong with it according to my uncle who I would be buying it from. He is very mechanical btw. It runs good but the starter was installed improperly and has apparently eaten the teeth off of the flywheel, and since it stops at the same place on the flywheel every time it shuts down now he cant start it without rotating the flywheel to get some fresh teeth for the starter to grip.He also says some bolt on the starter is broken and that some threads near the starter are stripped:confused:. I havent layed eyes on it yet myself so this is all according to him. But like I said he is a pretty sharp dude he just has two other trucks and doesnt have time to fix it.I just wanted to ask yall if anyone has seen a similar issue and if it is worth fixing. Seems pretty laborous, dropping the tranny and all. But im able and willing to do it if a new flywheel and starter is all it needs. All help will be appreciated.

I had to drop my trans (4L80E) to replace the front seal. The job really isn't that bad.
Install a heli-coil or a e-z lok in the bad starter hole. I would jump on that deal!
Is the truck in Leesburg?

This won't be a quick process, but it is pretty straightforward. Drop the tranny, replace the flywheel, and probably the starter bolts as well. I would certainly replace the starter drive too, if it didn't look good. On a 4x4 this can all take a lot of time. The only gotcha would be if the starter bolt holes are stripped. Then a bit of drilling and tapping might get you going again. Nothing here is rocket science. The price is certainly right if the rest of the truck is ok.

hey thats weird we just finished doing that to our 4x4 6.5 too, tip, get it up as high as u can, so that it is easier to work under, gotta pull the transfer case off, and then pull tranny off, it is straight forward, but takes time
