The shortest stop I have run into is on Kanen-Dume Road which dead-ends into Pacific Coast Highway just north of Malibu Colony. An 8 percent grade with a sand pit in the center lane and a signal at the bottom. The added control is nice to have. Rockies, Sierra and Cascades can all be challenging if you need to avoid trouble.
