I am going to get a 6.5l oil pump drive to replace the vacuum pump that goes on 6.2l (I will be using the 6.5l serp belt vac pump). The oil pump drives are available with or without RPM sensors.

My question is can I run a tachometer gauge using the oil pump drive with a RPM sensor or is just used for auto tranny computer stuff?

correct, that oil pump drive rpm sensor puts out a signal only the trans can accept. I have tried to make a signal converter for it, but ended up with an erratic/inaccurate reading, though that could be my error. but I did get a reading (makes me feel better about my efforts) :)

i have the wiring diagram/parts list if you wanna try wirin up the circuit.

otherwise I highly recommend a crank/flywheel trigger, like Dakota Digital's piece for a tach signal.

PM me for more info.

The tach is a "future" item. I just wanted to make sure I can get the oil drive pump without the rpm feature and not have to change it out later when I want my tach.

Thanks!!! :D
