I have a Banks 6-gun W/PDA on my truck and my tranny is going to have to be rebuilt soon, I can no longer drive above level 5, if I get on it hard it will go into limp mode... I have about 104K on my truck and I have driven it hard, but I am not sure that a shift kit alone will last much longer, as the Torque Converter is pretty vulnerable itself. I am sure there are some experts on here that can expound upon this more but I think that any time you add significantly more power you are going to have to plan on rebuilding your tranny sooner rather than later.. As for Kits I have been looking in to one from PATC, It looks like a really great kit and affordable, compared to ATS, PPE or BD..
here is the site.

The cheapest way to go would be a Transgo tranny kit, unfortunately unlike the 06 and up 6 speed trannys the 05 must have the tranny pulled. Cheapest price that I found was $1600. I think if you have to go that far and remove the tranny might as well spend the extra and go for a full suncoast rebuild with torque converter. it will cost a a bit more but you might want to do it once and do it right.

well the price looks pretty good are these the same parts that suncoast is using in theirs? I had a guy at a local trans shop tell me that TCI makes the torque converters for everybody like suncoast, ats, ..... is this true? has anybody used these parts from the patc website if so what kinda of luck are you having?

I have been talking to a couple tranny shops and there telling me anywhere from $3500 to $5000, depending on what kinda horse power your running and doing with the truck like towing. those funds are canadian dollars.

Hey guys i got another question iam trying to figure out if there are any diffrences to a LLY transmisson to a LB7.
Thanks

The main difference is the oil cooler lines are different size and the LLY unit has a "G" solenoid that the LB7 doesn't for the most part. There were some 2004 LB7 units that got the solenoid but it was not used.

I forgot to say that the line size difference were the 2001 and 2002 model year. In 2003 the lines were changed to what is used today.

For some reason I thought the lb7 pumps were different than the lly's??? Someone verify this???

Steve there are internal differences in most all model years as Allison has done a nice job upgrading the units. If you look at the pumps there are a few different versions but they all get upgraded to the same part number if you go with the newest release from Allison.

Thanks for clarifying that! I second guessed my post and almost deleted it.

Transmission lines never changed size. Fittings changed and the flair on the end of the lines changed.
Pumps changed along with the stator support mid year '04. G solenoid was installed in '03 late in the year but never lit up.

G solenoid drops main line pressure 150 psi below 8% throttle opening to let Alli run cooler at long idle periods.

That helps lots guys thanks. wondering tho if i was to purchase this transimisson that came out of a 2002 how much work would it take to install the G solenoid? or would i be better off trying to find a newer transimisson out of say a 04?

The cooler fittings on the '02 will not match

The cooler fittings on the '02 bell housing won't match your lines. You would need a late '03 or '04, '05 bell housing. As far as the G solenoid; you can run a non G solenoid valve body in a '04/'05 by using late internal valve body harness and attach a G solenoid to the harness and just zip tie it to the valve body pipe. That will satisfy the TCM as it will be looking for it.

You could buy it and swap all the parts needed from the 2004 transmission you already have, they will bolt right up. Personally I would look around for the proper unit to replace it with. Why would anyone want to defeat the improvements Allison has made in the later units.

OK so I should have stated the end of the lines changed size. Either way the lines changed size!

No this is not true.

I have used TCI in the past in cars, never tried one of their Allison converters. I think it would be safe to stick with one of the more popular brands and know you spent your money wisely instead of taking a risk......not that there's anything wrong with that....

OK, Thanks for the info Mike!:)
