Earlier this evening, whie aiting for the DP to come back on line I checked the status of my gauge order. According to UPS they are scheduled for delivery tomorrow :)
With that in mind I pulled the truck into the shop, put it on the hoist, removed the right front tire and proceded to follow the 'guideline' from a post in the FAQ (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34248&page=1&pp=10)
Got everything loosened up and will roll the inner fender out as soon as I get home tomorrow. Couple of questions concerning this whole process.
It was stated in the referenced post that the drilling and tapping ws done with the engine runnng. This I assume is to blow the 'crap' out thru the exhaust. Can I also assume that at idle there are no exhaust gasses being introduced thru the turbo?
How thick is the boss area that is drilled and tapped? Just looking for an estimate so I know what I'm getting myself into. Fresh cobalt bits are in hand as well as a fresh tap, and cutting oil.
On drilling and tapping for boost. I removed the intake and have that drilled and tapped. I have to stop and get a gasket on the way home. Is sealer required, i.e. Perma-Tex, Hi-Tack, RTV ? What are the torques specs for the intake bolts and is there a specific sequence?
Lastly, any recommendations on where to place the trans temp probe? I'm thinking that I'll put a "manifold" in the line moving the hot fluid back to the cooler, near the radiator. Since I'll have the inner wheel well and Pass Side battery out, there should be plenty of room to manuever and install.
Thanks.
