I have a 2004 GMC Sierra with a Duramax/Allison. Today while driving, I noticed white smoke as I accelerated from stops. The problem seems so bad that people move from behind me to pass and stay out of the smoke. I have not noticed anything like this in the past. I still seem to have great power and acceleration. I do not notice any performance loss. I recently switched to Rolling Big Powers Diesel Additive which I mix with Amsoils Diesel Concentrate. I had been running the Amsoil Diesel Concentrate before with no problems. I dont know it that has anything to do with it, but I kinda suspect that something is not right. Please give me some insight to this problem. I would like to get it corrected before something major may happen. I also still see the black smoke on heavy acceleration. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you haven't done so already, pull your dipstick to see if you have any moisture in your oil. Sounds like you may have a blown head gasket to me.

Injector cupseals cause the same symptoms. I left a trail of white for a mile. Couldn't hardly see through it.

I just got back from Inland Valley GMC after having my truck diagnosed. I actually talked with the mechanic too. He said that my truck is pouring fuel into the engine and they couldnt find where it was coming from. They say that they will need it for 2-3 days. Based on the mechanics opinion, its been happening for a while. He said that there should have been some noticable power loss. I didnt notice any power loss, just the lower fuel milage. I was also advised that injectors have been sticking in the duramax's and dealerships are using some kind of solution to open them back up. I think my injectors are done at 26,000 miles. Ill keep everybody updated.

Injectors are the problem. That is what mine was doing and after 4 trips to two different dealers they were finally changed out and no problem since then. They had check pressures and all the other stuff but apparently injectors don't always behave like they think they should. The last time I went in I had a very onesided conversation with the service writer and manager and they were only speaking when I allowed them to. I was pissed. It had cost me downtime for 3 days in OR staying in a hotel and downtime at home on 3 other occassions. I was not a happy camper by this time.

Had the same issue and turned out to be fuel rails not injectors. Dealer first thought injections but after fuel rails installed now ok. Could smell fuel when stopped.

my injectors were not the problem, it was the sleeves.
poured the white stuff out big time!

They replaced the injectors and sleeves on mine at the same time. Runs great and no smoke except some black smoke occasionally from the juice module.

I got my truck back friday and they replaced all of the injectors and sleeves. It runs like its brand new. My truck had been running so long with bad injectors that I thought it was a normal diesel engine. Seems to run great now with smoke only on hard acceleration. Inland Valley GMC in San Bernardino hooked me up. The service Manager Bill Markloff is a good guy if you need some work on your truck in the Inland Empire.
