Take your pick, it could be

Tough country

Ranchhand

Frontier-gear

They all look alike, from my experiece frontier is the cheapest in my area.

Rolloffhill....you weren't kidding. They all do look alike! After looking at all three sites, I'm correcting myself and saying I think RanchHand is the correct one...because of those lights.

Thanks guys,

Tom

Tom it is a Ranch Hand. They do install the lights like that and the lower hitch base is a little different than all the rest... Good luck with that truck..

Just bought one. That's a ranch hand 10inch drop with lights.

I was wondering, can you see the bed of the truck (the part behind the back wheel) from the rear of the truck hanging below the corners of the bumper? I was behind a truck the other day with a ranchhand style bumper and you could see a lot of the fender and it looked kinda funny.

I know what you mean. After ordering mine i pulled up behind a truck and could see the white on both sides of the ranch hand bumper. I believe that was an 8inch drop.

Ranch hand has stopped selling, or maybe they never did, 8inch drop for the HD trucks.

Mine does not show any more than the stock bumper did.

Sweet. Good to know. The truck I was behind had the corners that angled all the way up to the pipe, like on that pic of the tough country bumper in the link above. It looked prett bad.

Yeah, I heard they only make the 10 inch now. I plan on getting the exact bumper you have, with the lights and all.

BTW, how bright are the lights?

Actually bought mine without lights, would have had to wait.

oh ok, yeah, I think they are backordered for like 4 weeks.

So did you just use some clip connectors to hook up the license plate lights?

BMCD
06-13-2005, 10:50 PM
Well i was told there are no clips for the lights. To be honest i have not even looked at what it would take to get those lights hooked up and secured. i also gotta work on the spare tire tube thing.

I am getting rid of the factory receiver hitch, its too far recessed. Had to get a extended hitch to be able to tow off the ball. I am going to get the optional receiver tube this week.... i hope.

I was wondering about the hitch. So you can't really use the factory one? I don't really want to use one of their bolt on ones because it is rated at only 5,000lbs I believe...

So what do you have to do with the spare tire tube to get it to work?

BMCD

I'm taking back to the guy i bought it from, he said he'll make it work. The OEM receiver hitch will work is just too far recessed for a standard length hitch. I'll try to get a pic up so you can see it tonight.

That would be great, thanks.

A pic kinda low from directly behind would be great too. :ro)

So does the spare tire thing not line up or something? (The reason I ask these questions is because I will have to order it and have it shipped, so I won't really be able to return it or carry it back to the shop if something does't fit right or I don't like it).

I thought about cutting off part of that big lip that sticks out, but I hate to start cutting on a $450 bumper....maybe if I could find a blem....

Thanks BMCD. Those pics help a lot. It is a shame that lip sticks out that far and makes the receiver hitch somewhat useless.

BMCD

Well in my case i can still use it. Just had to buy a longer shaft

DuckhunterInTN

I guess I should say useless with a typical receiver hitch that someone already has. I bought a solid, rather expensive drawbar that had a high weight rating not long ago and looking at your pics I doubt it would fit (its kinda short).

The only rear bumper I have seen that doesn't interfere at all with the stock hitch is the Frontier-gear....but I am not sold on the looks.:( I am with you duckhunter, I have that same drawbar and it is WAY to expensive to toss out. I am thinking about fabing my own rear bumper so I can use my factory hitch, similar to the frontier but I would use pipe instead of tread plate. I haven't drawn anything up, still thinking about it. Guess I'll have to put that on my todo list.......Like that isn't long enough already, OH YEAH thanks for fabing your own skid plate, now that is on my todo list too...):h New headache rack, new skid plate, new rear bumper................I think this place is costing my more than just performance upgrades.. ):h

Yeah, I am with you, I am not sold at all on the looks of their Diamond Back bumpers. Too "out there" for me, especially the GMC/Chev versions. The Dodge version does not look too bad.

The bumper I am looking at from Frontier is the pipe bumper and I like it a lot (the one in the other thread).

I'm like you I thought of making one myself but it would be a labor of love for sure...and it would take forever to get it exactly right...and would not be any cheaper than buying one. I've about finished up my bed rails I built and that took a while b/c I was so picky.

I'm tempted to buy a Ranchhand or Frontier pipe bumper and shave some of that step lip off so that a normal drawbar will work.

Glad to see you liked the skidplate. Email or pm me if you need any help with it...whenever you get to it on your list:D

How much does one of those RanchHand "Cowboy" 10" drop bumpers with lights cost new?

If anyone living close to the Houston, TX area, I may have one to sell (or prefer a trade for a nice-condition stocker) next weekend (July 2nd). You'd have to supply the tools, though. :HiHi:

Yes I am. Flying in July 2nd to Houston Hobby Airport. :thumb: Trey (GMC2500HD) volunteered to pick me up and drive me to the dealer in Dickenson!!!!!!!! :ro)

Lets just say I got it for a "cannot refuse" price. Has one dent in right side rear box...but I have a bodyshop on the route that owes me a favor!

The pic at the beginning of this thread is the truck (and the bumper).

Will explain all after I get it home!

I found an excellent condition 2005 takeoff rear bumper for B.B.T.

Now I just have to figure out what size stock bolts I need to install it. The guys that installed the RanchHand didn't use the stock hardware. They also ran a weld along the rear of the frame horns, so I have to grind that off, too.

Does anyone out there who installed an aftermarket bumper have their hardware from their old stock bumper handy?

If anyone wants a good-condition RanchHand Cowboy 10" drop with a half-moon cutout so you can use your stock hitch, and soon-to-be slight grind marks on the underside-mount plates, let me know. See pic in post #1 of this thread.
