Has anybody notice if the trans temp was lower when switching to Synthetic trans fluid?

It didn't on mine. I used Transynd.

I to switched to Transynd as well and didn't realize any noticeable drop in tranny temps. If you are shooting for lower tranny temps consider Mike L's cooler. ;) If you want better tranny performance and longevity consider using Transynd, Amsoil or other quality synthetic ATF. ;) Plenty of good intel on the Allison forum about this. Later. JJ :)

Synthetic is supposed to offer better protection from heat before breakdown, easier flow when cold and longer drain intervals.

As far as lower operating temps I have never seen it.

If you run your truck hard in various towing/racing conditions then more frequest changes with straight Dextron III would be more beneficial IMHO as well as spin on filter changes every 5K miles.

That's the way I service my tranny.

If you plan on driving stock, towing occasionally then sythetic will benefit you if you stick to driving stock and occasional towing, but the $$$$ cost is going to be much higher upfront for synthetic.

I would suggest buying MIKE L's cooler and run Dextron III with 5K spin on changes and 20K fluid changes.

Some may disagree.......you make the call. I run my truck hard every day with the Xtreme and race it and have never seen a tranny temp over 200 even racing.

An extra capacity pan will add 3-4 quarts of fluid too.

I noticed the difference when pulling HARD up hill. With it it, temps would climb higher than they do with transynd.

I bought Mike L cooler and installed it today. It looks great and installing it was a snap!

I hope it works as good as it looks. I am going on a wyoming trip jULY 1 AND RETURNING ON 16TH. I will be towing my 35 foot cedar creek fifth wheel. I will keep you posted on how the cooler works.
