Just wondering if anybody that has made your own cold air/ram air set up has pulled with or seen any benifits from it Mostly looking for cooler temps when pulling

If you use the search feature you will find that a few have made some stuff that works pretty well. Others will chime in with their info I am sure.. Welcome

Well I have a VOLANT air intake system but did add a "homemade" ram air intake to it. See:

Bodysurfer, just an idea. You could have a metal shop fab out an aluminum intake that would fit in that area and then you can cut it out completely and have a rectangular form fitted intake with a rubber gromet to complete the look.. Just an idea.. Would make it look real cool and then you can install a screen over it when you attach it to the plastic... I think that would look sharp...

Hey Bodysurfer, that sure turned out nice. Did you change that from the other blue tube design you had(or was that someone else)? This one is alot better looking. Is there any difference that is noticable? Greg

Bodysurfer yours was one of the ones I was reading about. Has it made a difference in cooler temps or performance? What about sucking up any moisure on a rainy day? Just thinking out loud about potential problems How long have you been running this setup? Yours is about the same type of set up I am playing with

Looks like you spent some time in the plumbing section at Home Depot. ):h

):h LOL):h How did you guess Greg? GMC2500HD, I like your ideal about the fab piece. Might have to look into that. No, I wasnt the one with the blue tube design but had that same ideal before I saw that guy's setup.

Well funny thing is that before I put that front piece on, while the truck was at idle, I put my hand just inside the tubing and could feel air rushing in. Was quite an eye opener. Didnt really think it would be sucking air in and thought it was only going to be as a air ram. As for rain, well no rain this season but for the rainy season, I have another piece to replace the screen piece and block the inlet. As in performance and cooler temps, well notice very slight increase in WOT but as for temps, unknown. I look at it like this: If I'm ramming more/cooler air in and the intake cant take it all in, then the rest gets pushed out through the airbox. This would eliminate any hot engine air getting into the box and down the intake tube.

Wouldnt you agree?

Thank you for your repies. Yes I would agree about pushing the hotter air out. I was thinking of using a gate that could be opened or closed depending on weather. When raining just close the gate and run off the stock set up.

I did the same thing, but I could not keep the bugs cleaned out of the filter fast enough. I then just left the bottom of the air box open and left the plate out. That way it draws cool air, but no bugs. I have tried to post a picture, but it failed. The image was way under the size limits, but still failed. Sorry!
