: Dealer says I'm screwed!
SullivanSeptic 01-01-2010, 01:13 PM So heres the deal. The truck in my signature is the one I am refering to. It has 60,000 miles on it. I have the tuner and exhaust and I am using it for snow plowing as well. Service 4wd light is on and I have no 4wd. I took to the truck to a buddy who is a GM meachanic for another dealership and he says the transfer case actuator is shot. I took it to him instead of my normal dealer because he can work on it in his dealership and they wont say anything about the tuner or plow. So, like I said the actuator is shot. Now he goes to order another one and the computer says that there are none in the entire country. Then he tells me that he researched it more and found out that the part is no longer made and there are no replacement parts for it either. His boss then tells me that the only way to fix this is to steal one off of another truck. Yes, he actually told me to steal one.
So the bottom line is I am screwed with out 4wd. Does anyone know anything about this or have a lead on getting ahold of a transfer case actuator? Its not fun plowing in 2wd.
Dawg2500HD 01-01-2010, 01:46 PM WTF?! Sounds like BS!
chevbowtie22 01-01-2010, 01:50 PM Yeah that sounds like complete bs. See if you can have your buddy get the part number and look it up on gmpartsdirect.com I might be a part you could find at a boneyard or at a parts store like NAPA too.
greif03lb7 01-01-2010, 01:56 PM Got mine for my 03 at 0reilly auto parts for like 212 or somthing. I have an extra one but I dont want to sell it because if mine goes out again I would be pissed that I didnt have one.
DuramaxSMOKE11 01-01-2010, 01:58 PM deff sounds like BS for sure. there is no way they would stop making a part that so many people are going to need

Is this the part that he is talking about?

Man, that sucks having to deal with an ignorant shop/parts manager.
If you're gonna have to steal, steal the whole truck.
Tony Burkhard 01-01-2010, 02:55 PM I may have one. You will need to call me 989-550-1288.
floriduramax1 01-01-2010, 03:22 PM Transfer case in the NBS truck is different, isn't it?
SullivanSeptic 01-01-2010, 03:50 PM Yes it is different. I have the LMM with the new body style. The one in the link does not look like the one I need. I am getting the part number, hopefully soon so I can start calling junk yards. I know that the original actuator is made by BOSCH. I am hearing that they no longer deal with GM since the bancrupcy.

robbieyukon 01-01-2010, 04:55 PM This happened to my friends truck with his H2o pump cover. It cracked in Sept and was told it would be sometime in the spring that they could get another cover, all because of Government Motors. He ended up welding his and so far so good.
775dirty 01-01-2010, 04:58 PM o'reily/kragen sells bosch products
SullivanSeptic 01-01-2010, 05:23 PM So this was a buddy of mine at another dealership that told me all this while he had my truck in there shop. I talked to my salesman at my dealership on the phone today and he said it is the first he has ever heard of this. He said they usually get notices regarding this type of stuff, and they have not recieved any. He said they will do what they can on monday when parts and dealership opens up. So i guess I am waiting till then. But I got snow comming on Wednesday. Thanks for all the info guys. I still might be calling you Tony. Maybe Monday

Sounds like the salesman is feeding you a line to look like the hero, and trying get your service work back to that dealer ship. Have you called any of the parts stores yet to see if someone has one?
SullivanSeptic 01-02-2010, 09:27 AM He might be feeding me a line but I dont know right now. No GM parts are open until Monday. And I am still waiting on the part number from my buddy that worked on it originally. I guess i'm gonna have to wait until Monday to do anything. I don't want to tell my dealer this yet but I am fine with paying for the part and installing it myself. I don't really care about warranty at this point. I did add on some aftermarket stuff that may have voided warranty. I am willing to man up and pay, but I just need a damn parm to pay for. Anyway, we will know more Monday. I will let you know. And I still may me calling you Tony for that part. Please be gentile on the $$$ if I do need it.
SMiller 01-02-2010, 12:16 PM Seriously why do you keep waiting around and putting this off? You said you have no problem paying and you need 4wd by Wed. Do you really think the dealer is going to get one in and installed by Wed.????? Others have said one can be bought at Napa or O'rially, you are going to loss a lot of money come snow time, go by one and when GM pulls through just throw it in the Napa box and take it back. The fact that your truck has a exhaust, tuner, and snow plow has nothing to do with the actuator so I don't know why you think you need to front the money anyways...
modified 01-02-2010, 12:30 PM Just some thoughts and questions:
I wonder how he tested the actuator to determine it's bad?
Could it just be corrosion or moisture in electrical connections on axle or T-case?
Isn't this truck a little new for this actuator to fail?
SullivanSeptic 01-02-2010, 12:57 PM he hooked it up to a Tech 2 computer. Ran some tests and the computer was asleep. He "woke" it up and the actuator would not engage. Said he checked everything and that is the only thing that could be wrong.

Well, Napa and Orielly do not have the right part that I need. It says it matches, but it is not the right one. Also, this happened on New Years Eve at about 4pm. I am not sure if you know this, but not many stores are open on a Holiday weekend. And yes, the dealer will void my warranty for a tuner, exhaust, and plow. I garuantee that in the dealers eyes, my extra horsepower tuner and plow that causes strain on the drivetrain could have caused the transfer case to break down. I am not saying that it did, but the dealer will for sure think so.
