Have a 2003 duramax that is hard to start. Had the fuel filter chang 4 times in last 6 months.
The truck would not start today so i took the filter off an put it back on.Primed the system and the truck started. Is there a problem with fuel primer or the fuel pump. Please give me some help if you can.
ps. truck starts good after filter change and runs good with no lost power

It sound like you are leaking air into the fuel system. Are there any aftermarket items that have been added to the fuel system? If so you may want to bypass them to see if the problem goes away. You caould also have a bad fuel fitler mount assemble that is leaking air into the system.

The truck is all stock. Thanks for the help. How would you check the fuel mount for leaks. Because there is no fuel leaks.

Air will leak into or out of places where fuel won't, it's just the nature of the beast. I would remove the OEM fuel filter and check both "O" rings at the top and bottom of the filter for any damage ie: cuts, creases, twists, dirt, etc, you get the picture?? When I change out my OEM fuel filter I put a small amout of vaseline on the "O" rings also making sure they are seated properly in the OEM fuel filter and then install the filter hand tight at first, then, "VERY CAREFULLY", I use my strap wrench and give a slight tweak to make sure it seats properly. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN or it'll be a be-atch to get off the next change interval. If the OEM fuel filter is not tightened enough, then, due to vibration, it may back off (loosen) slightly while you are driving allowing the fuel system to suck air. After my OEM fuel filter is installed and leak checked I take a black magic marker and put a creep mark from the edge of the filter housing to the lip of the filter itself and check that mark periodically to see if it has moved. Good luck with you situation..........................SWH...:)

For a test only you can bypass the OEM fuel filter assemble with a piece of tubing. Connect the feed hose to the outlet hose and get the truck running smooth. Then let it sit overnight again. If it starts properly then you've found the problem. If it doesn't start properly then the problem is else where.
