I've been having issues with the factory leather, had the drivers seat replaced once already (14,000 miles) and decided to try Katzkins out. Got my truck back yesterday and the quality is outstanding. From the pix you'll see that Katzkin made nice tufts in the leather. At least now the entire seat is wrapped in leather.

Looks NICE :D. Did you get all the seats done, or just the front? Would you be willing to share what it cost?

Steve,

Only did the front seats for now although I'll probally do the bench in the rear since the Katz look so nice. The two chairs cost me $900, included installation.

A lot of people are reporting that the leather suck's

Mine is not too bad, just a little cracked on the left bottom side of seat near door.

Someone told me it was caused by rubbing on the seat bottom with jeans when ever you get in or out.

So now I try to lift my ass up instead of sliding it across the seat.

Seat's look nice good luck

aznap, those look great! :thumb:

Price is pretty reasonable for true leather covers, too. The seat design is almost exactly like stock, too.....:ro)

Congrats!

I constantly get asked by someone why I did not get leather when I ordered mine.........

Having owned other GM trucks with leather previous to ordering my 2002 I KNEW what to expect..........

Why spend the extra $1700-$2000 for Leather Buckets.....seating surfaces only and a "PLEATHER" back seat.........

Cloth seats are cool in the summer, warm in the winter and last without cracking, conditioning and worrying.

I am not knocking anyone that likes it, but it is not any kind of Quality....GM factory leather..........

Those KATSKINS do look good !!!!!

Good Luck,

I wish they had a seating material similar to the old MBTEX which was a vinyl type interior that came in some of the older Mercedes cars. I've seen 20 year old MB's that were near junk status but the seats looked like new. The stuff was perforated with pin point sized air holes so you never stuck to the seats. Don't think Mercedes even uses it now but it was sure durable.

GMC-2002-Dmax,

My '01 has cloth and after 130,000 miles still looks good. I would have opted for the cloth in my '04 but I really wanted the heated seats. it does suck that we have to spend the money on the GM option and THEN pay again to have quality leather put on. Oh well, it is fun to dress these things up.

AZNAP,

They LOOK just like the stock covers, what is the big difference? Are they completely leather and not just the seating surface? I would be intrested in seeing pictures a year from now.

I like 'em. Since I own a auto repair and performance shop I climb in mine filthy some days (Just too damn beat to clean up here). I keep a towel on the seat bottom, kind of sucks I can't enjoy the leather, but I do pull it off when I am not here. Hopefully that helps preserve the leather, I am a big facker too, 6'8" 340 so seats usualy throw up the white flag eventualy. :)

Thicker leather all around I have seen pics of them at 100K and they look a lot better than stocker at 100K that doesn't say much though.

I'm partial to the cloth seats, but those look sweet man.

parent723,

They look like the OEM because that's what I was shooting for. If you go to Katzkin's site you'll see several examples on different color patterns, etc. I've seen some trucks with some very cool looking patterns. Unlike the OEM, all of the seat is now leather including the headrest and armrest. Believe me, I could spend the $900 on something more exciting but the OEM leather/pleather was really bothering the hell out of me. It's a shame GM almost forces you to this in order to obtain quality leather.

dozerboy,

Yes, that was with the installation. Actually $954 with sales tax. Keep in mind I only had the front seats done, not the rear bench.

Do they match really well?

The color is dead on OEM. Except for the extra tufts you couldn't tell these are aftermarket. The downside here is that the cab now has that beautiful leather smell, more so than the OEM covers and now I'm thinking of having the rear bench done!? So far there are no wrinkles forming on the drivers side unlike the OEM's that started to wrinkle as soon as I took delivery.

Hmm, very interesting. My 99 OBS Z-71 had leather and I loved it - lasted fine too. My 02 Sierra has cloth and I still haven't got used to it yet (had truck for 6 months). To me the cloth feels like velcro on your clothes. I had thought about getting seats from a wreck but heard that the newer OE leather sucked. This looks like a nice option.

Has anyone gone from oem buckets to a bench and been able to do something about the console, seat heaters..... I would love to have a bench instead of buckets

I replaced the console with a fold-down center seat from eBay, so the seat heaters weren't an issue. The 3 big problems were (1) Bose amp, (2) Bose subwoofer, and (3) heater box outlet. The solutions were:

-Bose amp: I relocated it to the inside of the firewall, mounted vertically to the left of the heater box and sort of above the go pedal. It's a tight fit and you have to be careful to not interfere with the mechanism on the outside of the heater box.

-Bose subwoofer. Just junk it. I found that if the bass wasn't full up I couldn't even tell if it was connected or disconnected, and with the bass full up the system sounds terrible.

-Heater box bottom outlet. I built a cover out of cut-and-glued plastic drain pipe. The cover needs to leave space for the flap on the bottom of the heater box to move freely.

I hated that dang console but had to buy it (and the crappy Bose and the crappy OnStar) in order to get heated seats.

I was quoted $1200 to do all my 2002 CrewCab in Katskin.
