Even since it started to get cold outside my trans has slipped going into 4th until the trans gets to around 100*. After that it shifts like the day i got it. I replaced the spin on and put transynd in. Now it doesnt slip when cold just from about 100 to 110* and once again after that shifts just fine. It has the transgo jr in it and has never been limped and only let shift into 4th under wot twice on ppe level 4. What could the problem be? Time for built trans?
thanks
Justin

Does it pop a code ? if it isnt coding then the clutches arent slipping it would throw an incorect ratio code, converter could be slipping but either problem need to be verified before you start throwing money at it , it would have to be logged by a tech 2 preferably or EFI to actually see a slippage for verifacation .

Its never thrown a tranny code

My best guess without actaully logging it would be your slipping/overpowering the converter , because 4th gear is about when the converter locks .

If it is not throwing a code, when was the last time you changed your fuel filter? A few times when my transmission started acting up, it was after getting a bad batch of diesel that plugged up my filter. Just another area to check off the list.

Would it be overpowering the converter on the stock tune and barely on the gas because it seems to slip unless im barely barelyyy on the gas

Tried that too. Tried all the filters execpt the internal one which was replaced over the summer.

Gotcha...you had mentioned it was cold, but I wasn't sure what part of the country and sometimes the fuel gels inside the filter if it's cold enough.

with out actaully diagnosing it there is no way to know but it shouldn't on a stock tune , as i mentioned already only way to rule out slip is to properly scan/ log if it passed the test as not actually slipping then move on from there .

Thanks trentnell for all your help. I really appreciate it and i have one last question. How do i go about logging it since i dont have/know anyone with efi or a tech 2?

Haven't played much with PPE's scanning features - they may have TCC Duty Cycle and TCC slip speed. If Duty Cycle is 67.5% or higher (for your LBZ) slip should be 0 RPM or less. That will tell you if the converter is slipping. As has been said it would throw codes if it was the clutches slipping. Alot of ECM and TCM parameters have adjustment tables based on coolant temps and trans temps - a stronger defuel or slower shift timing could be what you are noticing.

Looked today and my ppe doesnt have that feature. I thought what i was noticing was slipping because when it shifts into 4th the rpms suddenly jump 200 to 300 rpms before finally shifting

Are you sure that the converter isn't just running unlocked until trans temps get up to a certain temp....It's 10*F here and I have to drive a couple miles before the converter locks up.

My long lazy shift was cured by changing the spin on trans filter. Now I change it at every oil change.

I maybe way out in left field but I just thought I would ask, do you have defueling turned off?

defueling is on and all the filters have been changed and switched to transynd

OK, I wasn't sure, I have never owned that product, Just thought I would throw that idea out there. Thanks for the info.:Handshake O, and to OP: Good luck, I hope you get it figured out!

Watching the video - I thought I was watching my dash. Because my tranny does the exact same thing. From 3rd to 4th. Seems to do it once or twice on the way to work in the morning. But not the rest of the day. Hopefully we can figure it out.

When it is cold out the converter doesn't lock until the temps get up to a certain amount. When this is happening the shifts will seem more flared than usual and you will notice higher RPM at cruising speed until it warms up and the converter locks.

I belive it wont lock until temps reach 90f.
