NO leaks whatsoever
Hard upper Radiator Hose
Coolant being pushed out the expansion tank by pressure
engine generally running at ~200-210 but sometimes moves up to 240
thermostat seems to be staying open

Any thoughts before I take it to the dealer? Any good independant diesel mechs in Tampa or Jacksonville FL? Need to get her on the road without worrying about getting stranded!

Thanks!

I don't like the blown head gasket answer.

Wondering, wouldn't there be oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil if it was head gaskets? Haven't seen either and I changed the oil last week.

Tonight I drove about 300 miles. First 50 the temp fluctuated between 200 and 240. Last 250, the temp was rock steady at 200.

Flushed and filled coolant today and no oil seen.

It leaks out the back of the engine. In the thread of the link I provided, the poor guy was convinced it wasn't the head gasket. No oil in coolant/coolant in oil, just hard top hose and consant loss of coolant. In the morning, the ''hard upper hose'' was sucked almost shut. The gaskets are known defective (where they rivit them together), so hopefully, it hits you while in the warranty period. I have a friend who the dealer denied warranty to (105k miles), so he loaded it up with stop-leak and traded it in to another dealer.

Upper hose doesn't lose pressure and tank stays pressurized long after shut down. It's about 25000 miles beyond warranty. Also, I never lose more than about a gallon of coolant.

Are head gaskets worth doing at a shop or should I go for it myself?

Sounds like head gaskets-!

The heads are not to hard to pull-- just a lot of stuff to remove and reinstall. If you are mechanical, you could do it-- just be well organized and tag, bag and mark everything. I think the labor is around $3,000, plus parts-$300 ?

I'd try and get the dealer to goodwill it being so little out of warranty.

Nope, it's blown between a cooling passage and the cylinder. Your pushing combustion gases into the cooling system causing the coolant to blow out the vent hose. There's not enough pressure in the cooling system usually to case the coolant to leak back the other way even once the engine's shut down.
