: "Service 4wd" on DIC
klvn8r 06-11-2005, 12:47 PM Just recently, the "service 4wd" message showed up on the DIC of my wife's 2000 Tahoe. I didn't find anything to "reset" the light or a description of what the "service" may be. I can only assume it means to take it to the stealer and take a $150 bath for an oil change. It'a a highway truck and has seen no more than a few miles of 4wd usage in the ice and some slight mud/stuck action. Seriously, it has MINIMAL wear...
Help please!!!
BzGmTech 06-11-2005, 07:44 PM You will have a DTC B2725 set in the TCCM, there is a service bulletin for this concern. You will need to replace the Transfer Case Shift Control Switch.
klvn8r 06-12-2005, 10:48 AM Hmmmm, that doesn't sound cheap. I guess you (being a mechanic!) figured out it was a push-button 4wd. I'm a pretty fair shadetree mechanic (old cars, at least) is something I can do?
THANKS!!!
Cobra#3747 06-12-2005, 01:35 PM I can only assume it means to take it to the stealer and take a $150 bath for an oil change. Thanks for supporting your local dealer tech and comming in here wanting free info.
klvn8r 06-12-2005, 02:31 PM Interesting perspective............. I suppose that you call a plumber when a turd is stuck in the toilet or you support your local paramedics for a hangnail or a stomach ache...
I guess if I did some "support" work, I could rent a car (since they would have her Tahoe for the weekend) and "support" AVIS, etc.
I figured an "ASK THE TECHS" section meant just that kinda stuff. Ask Eric Merchant, "dmaxallitech", I buy ALL of my D-Max maintenance stuff from him, even though he's not local.
div4gold 06-12-2005, 03:43 PM I just had that warning come on. I'd just picked up my first 3500 Duramax in Texas and was headed back to WA. I was in AZ and having a uneventual drive when this warning came on. I didn't know how serious this might be but I got out the Owners manual and tried to get it to reset like it said. It wouldn't. I sweated it out for about 40 miles till I got to Flagstaff and a Chevy Dealer. Nice Guys. The Service Manager came out and brought a Tech with a code reader. By this time the warning had dissapeared. They found a code in the memory and said it came from a switch. This happened about 3k miles back and it hasn't happened again. Some kind of computer thing that the dealer wasn't concerned about. The Dealership spent about 15 minutes troubleshooting this and didn't charge me a cent. The truck isn't on Warranty either. Nice guys there in Flagstaff :)

Just giving you a hard time. I honestly cant imagine having to pay anyone to work on my cars.:D
klvn8r 06-12-2005, 11:22 PM AHH!!! A comedian!!! Gotcha!
I read that about eight times before formulating my smart-ass reply!! I don't have any problems working on my old cars, but this "new" stuff (including METRIC!) is above my head, particularly electronics! If its simply a plug/switch type malfunction, I'm in. Just gotta know what to look for, and where!

EnerMax 06-24-2005, 10:31 AM This message jsut started to appear on my 02 2500HD. Does the info supplied above for the Tahoe apply to my truck as well? Any help appreciated.
Thanks
skoryaro2 06-24-2005, 10:56 AM FWIW - I notice that message comes on when I pull the fuses to load a Predator tune. Goes away once fuses are reinstalled.
jvle95 06-27-2005, 01:15 AM I had the same message in my 2001 Yukon. I bought the switch from the dealer and installed it. I can not remember the price of the switch but I do know it wasn't too pricey. As for the replacing the switch, it was very easy. Just pop off the front trim piece that connects to the dash and the switch is easily switched out.
fredw 06-27-2005, 02:53 AM took mine in for the service 4wd as well last week, this problem has been happening for the last 4 months, they first cleared used the tech II and updated per service bulletin, tried and all worked ok, gave me the keys, as i started the truck service 4wd was back on, then they changed the black magnetic sensor position down in the transfer case, cost me 240cdn, and since then all has worked ok, mechanic said he has changed a few
klvn8r 07-10-2005, 11:25 PM Boy, I'd about given up on this topic, but now it has reared its ugly head again. This weekend, while driving the wife's 'Hoe I was sitting at a traffic light. When it changed, I accellerated normally, and to my surprise, HORRIBLE noise!!! I thought I had driven over someone's Kia or something!!! Seriously, it sounded like a slow-motion accident. Watched the mirrors, nothing expelled. But then the wife said, "That was worse than when it did it to me!" She's heard a "clunK" recently, the "service 4wd" message is on the DIC, and now this! Is it really just a "blue fluid" issue, or should I be really concerned?? THe wife says it the truck saying, "Trade me in for a Hemi Magnum R/T".
What say you experts?? I drove the Magnum, it was pretty cool!!!

Hooky 08-12-2005, 11:24 PM Just got my first "service 4-wd" message on my DIC today. The message appeared after I re-started engine following being shut down for 5 minutes or so. I have reset but still comes back on immediately after re-starting. I drove down the road a couple of miles, pulled over and pressed the button to engage 4-WD High. Appeard to go in OK. Tried 4-WD Lo and I was unable for some time to get it to go back to 2-WD high. Thought I was going to have to ride in for several miles under 45 mph or call a tow.
I have read several posts suggesting this may a faulty 4-WD electronic switch. Truck only has 2,500 miles, 2005 model D-Max. Any suggestions before I head to the Dealership. The GM Dealership in my town is not noted for having the best diagnostics. Had to get the fix for my 1995, 6.5 PMD problem from a diesel troubleshooting website, so you can see why I have little faith in their ability. Any Tech help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. :help:
