Hey im not sure if this has been posted or has become a sticky yet but here it goes, My way of Changing and bleeding the filter.

Open Hood, and remove the turbo power cover if equipped

Next Locate fuel filter assy and remove large nut from the top
(I found a large rag while turning is best or big channel locks)

Drain Filter Housing with handle or take a turkey baster and suck out sediment from bottom of the housing

To Install make sure the little small strainer is inside your new filter or go pick up a new one, i buy AFE or Luberfiner and they come with it so no worry in my part

Line up the slots and push down untill top is flush with the housing, then screw on the black nut on the housing to secure the filer

TO BLEED SYSTEM

this method is superior and quick and saves your starter

Get a piece of wire about 3 feet long, pref 16gauge or 18 gauge
Strip the ends and buy 2 alligator clips.

Under Frame Rail On Driver side locate the pump and strip back some insulation on the brown wire which is the (+). Next Connect one lead of the wire to it and the other to the (+) Terminal on the battery on the driver side

Now the pump is running and will bring the fuel quickly up to the filter bleed vale and then once you see diesel pouring out, disconnect the cable and close the top bleed valve, discconect your wire and put some tape around your wire on the pump.

Crank the motor and soon the oil pressure will register and boom the truck starts

Happy Bleeding :D:D

This forum is full of interesting suggestions lately.

Stripping the wire is a bad idea for those in the north country. Corrosion is a problem, and the bare wire is begging for it. As i was told by Bill Heath himself the other day, "The LP is a very sensitive device and is designed to put out it's fuel and pressure at 12 volts. Drop that to 10 volts and no fuel will come out."

I know 94-95 have the ADL connector that you can jump two pin and run your LP. 96+ has a little red wire with a black female spade connector on it right behind the underhood fuse panel sticking out of the wire loom. Put 12 volts to that and your LP will run.

I'd say of your going to splice wires, permanently wire in a momentary switch for priming fuel filters say under the hood somewheres. That way you change the filter, pres the button and done. Just a suggestion.

i put a switch on the control power wire (orange or red wire i forget witch color ) on the relay pass side fire wall (the thing that looks somewhat like a small spam can)

i was thinking to make a switch as well for bleeding. hell of alot better than cranking the hell out of the starter. Poor OEM design by GM. New duramaxs have the push button to bleed filters
