Hello all, I'm a little concerned about the longivity of my truck. I have a friend of mine that just had to replace his Allison tranny in his 07 Classic with 51,000 miles. He uses the truck on his farm for maintenance on all his equipment. He has no mods on it, it's a total stocker. I bought mine new 3 years ago, it now has 16,000 miles on it and have had not a problem. I bought it for retirement with the understanding that it is the best Duramax built. My main concern is if it's not going to hold up, having enough funds for repairs on a retirement budget. My 07 (Classic HD CCSB) is also stock with the exception of a Banks cold air intake filter system. The intent of this truck was to be my last truck purchase. What is your opinions?

Is he pulling over the limit a lot? These trannys will outlast the engine most the time, with a stock LBZ you should be set for a long time to come. Don't worry.

I don't think that is typical...more like an anomoly. Several of my friends who tow heavy TTs frequently, they all have 100K miles with no issues except for the EGR and one with a fan clutch replacement. It is also important to be vigilant with the maintenance schedule, particularly in dusty conditions, but that's with any vehicle. Is his truck only used for short distances and heavy loads?

The only instances that I'm familiar with in regard to Allison failures has to do with some of the people hot rodding and/or racing their trucks. I'm confident you'll be in good hands and that your truck will provide many years of service. I too don't plan on buying another truck.

Thanks for responding. I don't think he pull/tows really too heavy of loads. If he does it's around the farm just moving equipment. I know he has a lot of tools and a Fuel tank on the flat bed. Oh yah it's a flat bed, he ordered a CCSB with a flat bed.

Thank you, I'll take your word on that. I sure hope it last, because I really enjoy driving it.

tranny @ 51K? Virtually unheard of (up until now anyway).... If there is really nothing out of the ordinary about the way the truck is used I'd say it's just a wild fluke.

This board repreesnts a lot of experience with these trucks and they are extremely well built.... and I wasn't even particularly a fan of Chevy/GMC before I bought this truck so my endorsement is tougher to come by than many others here.

I think you're set for many years to come....
