:help2: My dad has an 04 LB7 with 43,000 mi. In the first 30,000 mi it used about a gallon of coolant. Now in about the last 10,000 it used about 2 gallons. Now it sometimes hydraulics in the morning. My dad marked the balancer and it always seems to hydraulic on the same cylinder. My dad is a mechanic and will be fixing it himself (doesnt like anybody else working on his truck). Does anybody know what it is going to take to fix this?:help2:

Thanks

Somebody has got to have some info? Could this be leaky injector seals?

If it's leaking into the cylinder he should be able to let it sit overnight then remove the glow plugs and have someone crank it over to see which cylinder is pushing coolant. Once you determine the cylinder it's a crap shoot as to what it is without tear down and inspect. The quick thing would be try removing the injectos and injector cup and reseal the injector cup. Get it running and repeat the test to see if the coolant leak is solved.

It could be but you should really take it back to the dealer, remember we have a 100,000 mile engine warranty.

You shouldn't be using any coolant including the first gallon in 30,000 miles.

And I would be carefull too because if you open up the engine now you may have a chance of the dealer denying any repairs down the road because you worked on it.

I know, I know, they have to prove that you messed something up to deny a claim but still why risk it.

I like to work on my own truck too but for the big warranty stuff let them fix it.

Your truck's not right let them repair it under warranty.

My dad has a deal with the dealer where he gets paid to do the warranty work. I was just hoping that find out for sure what it is and what it was going to take to fix it but it looks like he will have to try what dieseltech suggested and go from there. Hoot, those pictures will be very helpfull if we have to replace the head gasket.

Thanks

This also happened to my truck over a year ago. Turned out it was a tiny crack in the head, and only could be found with a "HOT TEST". Oh yeah, GM even told the dealer which head to test!!!!! The left one. It was cracked !! Now how did they know, which one ???!!!
