: injector problems
bigneily 12-25-2009, 03:24 PM hey fellas, i've been using my predator for a while now about 30,000 km's nothing more than the 80 hp tune, mostly set on 40hp for towing. my truck still has warranty and i've gone through 3 injectors already, i use stanadyne religously , buy my fuel at a popular fuel station, what gives?. could the predator be my problem, gm told me injectors through them are a thousand bucks a piece so i don't want to buy one or two if i don't have too. my truck just turned over 95000 km's. are all injectors considered equal or are others better than gm units? wondering if i should look into another brand if they are considered better for higher hp tunes..anyone have any ideas ..our local dealer has recently started scanning the vehicle computers looking for chips and such, voiding warranties where they are found  to have been used , my predator so far has come up clean on a scan, reading the paper work after the last 2 were done , their paper work said most of the other injectors were showing a high balance rate, even #5 injector which was replaced at about 25000 km's ago had a high reading. i like the predator so i don't want to get rid of it if i don't have to ...thanx:)
bigneily 01-11-2010, 09:36 AM been talkin with the dealer more about my problems:mad:. they are telling me that my problem could be in the stanadyne, that i'me possibly mixing it too heavy, anyone been told this one before. he said to only mix 1/2 of what i normally would and to also change places where i'me buying fuel....
Dmax1989 01-11-2010, 08:52 PM I don't know if i would buy the part about you using too much additive, maybe the fuel station, but not the additive. I seen a thread on here (i think) that said if you mix too much additive in, it will only cost you more additive, nothing more.
bigneily 01-11-2010, 11:08 PM i was thinking that also, but just trying to keep an open mind here that's all...
403DMAX 01-12-2010, 12:38 PM I second the comment concerning not using too much fuel additive. I have replaced many injectors on many different motors from boats to 15L Cats and Ive never been told by an injection rebuilder the cause was too much additive. From my experience, injector failure typically results from: significant gasoline introduction, water contamination, poor fuel quality (repetitively), poor filtration to the injector pump, bad lift pump or less than adequte fuel supply causing cavitation. Many conditions exist, but this is just to name a few. I have had rebuilders suggest using atf as a injector cleanser due to the detergent properties within.

Hey, wasn't your truck in 8 lug magazine?
403DMAX 01-12-2010, 06:01 PM Yes sir, thanks for noticing! Hope you liked it.
Dmax1989 01-12-2010, 07:44 PM That was pretty cool, i went over that article a few times looking for ideas for mine when i get there.
403DMAX 01-12-2010, 11:33 PM That mag article was done in June just before I blew the headgaskets @ Numidia dragway! I broke my personal 1/4 mile time but thats all she wrote for the dually for now:(. Im hoping to have a complete engine build done before end of this year. Dmax parts are so much $
bigneily 01-13-2010, 10:11 PM how often and how much atf should be used for better injector life?
403DMAX 01-14-2010, 12:05 AM From what I've been told by injection rebuilders and through some reading, 1 QT per full tank on a long box should do ya fine. So figure about 1qt per 34 gallons or so. As far as frequency, I would suggest every 5th or 6th tank or every 5000 miles. Its cheap cleanser. Just 1 qt of inexpensive ATF, non synthetic of course. Don't need to burn up the $ on synthetic. Do keep in mind, the fuel will turn RED! If you have concerns about tanks getting stuck by DOT, dont use this treatment method.
Dmax1989 01-14-2010, 10:25 PM Atf is about the same as the howes diesel additive it terms of cost but not sure if any differences in benefits.
