Any body done this? how does it sound? Or would it sound better with the 2 flowmaster single chamber 40's I have? Please give me opinions. I am thinking dual 3" if I straight pipe it. If I do the flowies it will be 2.5 to the mufflers (right after tcase) the 3" from there and possiblt 2 tips I dont know yet.

Friend had a 6.2 with 3" back to where it "Y"ed into dual 3"s, then to the rear of the truck with 5" tips. Sounded great at idle or low speeds. Screamed down the freeway, and sounded like a box of rocks when he mashed the "go" pedal... Me personally, I'd use the Flowmasters. Even though they are single chambers, it should smooth it out a least a little bit.

I had a blazer with dual glass packs, GEEEZ! Too loud for my taste, I'd go with the Flowmasters.

Its a personal opinion. Of course mine would be, the louder the better and also since its a diesel, it supposed to be loud!

Ive got dual glasspacks now, off of headers. I love the deep sound at low rpms and how its loud on acceleration! And when youre pulling stuff, like I was tonight around the yard, it makes you smile hearing that diesel exhaust. mmmm just sounds of power.

Was driving down the road a few months ago, and passed someone on a bicycle coming in my direction. he stopped and gave me the thumbs up with a huge grin!:ro)

So in all reality, the sound is personal preference. But everyone would probably agree to go big and freeflowing muffler, if any, in whatever design you pick.

The best thing you can do with duals on a 6.2 is install a 2" eaqualizer pipe between the two sides it will smooth out the sound and sound ten times better than without.
It will give it a deep rumble that makes it sound healthier than it actually is.
Personaly I like the idea of a single 3 or 4" pipe better than duals.

straight 3" is more restrictive then dual 2.5" though, or so ive heard elsewhere on this forum. I believe thats the same reason 6.2L trucks were factory with duals.

I agree on the crossover/equalizer pipe, and I have one. I do believe there is a difference.

Only thing that sounds better than a throaty exhaust on a diesel, is turbo whine on a turbo-diesel ;) IMHO anyway

I have dual 2.5 pipes, no mufflers, no crossover. I love the sound. Deep gurgling at low rpms, and a nice pur at higher revs. I don't think it's too loud, but I'm not behind it either ):h . My friend was driving behind me once, and he said it was loud but not obnoxious. Totally subjective of course.

Well since I dont have a turbo, which I dont mind not having that much, I'll go for the deep loud exhaust. and I sure do like my dual exhaust. thats not possible with a turbo is it?

by the way, is there a really good turbo diesel engine available without a computer? besides a 6.2L retrofit. im not sure, but 6.5L TD is computer controlled is it not?

I really doubt my 6.2 will be croaking anytime soon since it is a really strong engine. and going the length for sure turbo or no turbo. but if it does, and hopefully it dont, a upgrade will be looked for. but i dont like computer controlled stuff, so is there an engine available?

92 and 93 6.5's were mechanical injection and will interchange with a 6.2. As for other years of 6.5's, replace the electronic injection pump with a mechanical pump and drop it in.

Since I am involved with nuisance hog removal, I shelved the notion! CensoredCensoredCensoredCensored I drive around the properties with spotlight and gun or dogs and drop hogs! If they hear me coming from too far off I will never get a chance to help a landowner remove hogs! Maybe I need some cool cutouts from the '50's Brent:ro):grd:

Hey Cam, Is that the 599 block with 567 heads? how do you get a good one? Or is it better to go with a new block? Greg

I recently had a mixup i needed new exhaust and was gonna put cheap turbo mufflers with 2.5 inch pipes on, they forgot the mufflers!!! Loud as hell with the exits coming out the sides and sharp sound at higher revs, popped like crazy!!! In my area that just means the cops can find you easier so i brought it back and they put 2 flowmaster 40's on. What a nice sound and oh the power increase!!! Had the 'ol '85 burb slidin sideways no problem, i didnt even try that hard!!!
