For you fellow rustbelters:
Looking at exhausts and was wondering how bad the 409 stainless will be in 5+ years with our wonderful salt-lick roads in the winter. How many years has yours been on, and how bad is it?
Just looking to justify the extra cost for 304SS
Thanks!

Minnesota has similar conditions and I can tell you that a 409 system will look weathered in about 1 year. It will have quite a bit of surface rust, but nothing to worry about. Looks bad, but it will be just fine for years to come. Hope this helps.

So you don't think it is worth the extra cost for the 304 stainless then?
Don't mean to thread jack, but...
What about kits like the summit 5" ??? I really like the look of that 5 inch pipe but was wondering if it would hold together in the salt, being that it is an aluminized pipe.
Anyone else using an aluminized exhaust in the rust belt?

nassdmax,
It will hold up but it will be less than pretty in the five years. The stock materials are 409, so you can get an idea what it will look like by taking a look at the stock system you have now. We sell a lot of 304 it's the best no doubt, but if you could care less what it looks like the 409 will do the job. We have all the MBRP systems here if you have any questions let me know, we'll be glad to help with questions etc.
