I pull a 33 foot fifth wheel toy hauler that weighs around 14,000 lbs. Last week I towed from Corona, Ca to Newport Beach, Ca. You so-cal guys will hopefully know the highways. I towed 91 west to the 241. From the beginning of the incline on 241 to the toll plaza the trans locked in 3rd and ran around 1900-2100 Rpm. The outside temp was around 78. The motor ran around 205 and the trans ran around 190.
My question is what is acceptable for EGT's ? I saw 1250-1350 for the entire climb. When the turbo spooled up around 12-18 psi, I would see 1350-1400. Predator was on level one.. Just curious, as I have recently began to mod my truck and now have a pyro.. so I am really curious what the egt's were prior to my mods and under these same towing circumstances.. Thanks..-Bill

Wow, that's hot. That is a pretty steep grade.

I'm trying to decide between the predator and the edge and have heard the predator runs high egt's.

I'd be interested to see what the edge would do on level 1 on that hill under similar conditions as a comparison.

Thats a reasonable steep hill (though its even steeper approaching from the Irvine side). Probably the best hill in the local area to test on. From what I have read, the stock LLY can run even hotter than what you recorded. In the 1200's your OK, going above that you may want to back off a little. And as mentioned above, the Predator has never been known for low EGT's.

If you repeat the trip, load the stock tune back in and see what happens.
