Hi, I found in our local paper a 94 Dodge Cummins 2500 4x4 with a bad trans. I called the guy he said it has 176,000 miles and runs fine, on start up it has a little spitting sputtering but I would imagine that it might need the injectors cleaned and valves set.It does have the 5 spd tranny all gears are out but 1. The truck has been used as a work truck so it has dents and scratches here and there. I am going to look at it saturday so this is just what he has told me. I was wondering if i could get some opinions on what you guys might think it'd be worth so I have an idea what to offer if I like it. He is asking $1800 for it. Thanks for any help.

That's a killer deal, even if it's a running turd...

have the injectors pop tested, check the pump timing and get the valves adjusted. Ask the owner if the KDP has been fixed AKA Killer Dowel Pin

if it was 5th gear that was gone, it is a pretty simple fix...
search over on the dieseltruckresource forums for the updated 5th gear nut...
what happens is the nut holding 5th on the shaft backs off, and the gear backs off too until it falls out of mesh
