Just wondering what the difference is between these two trucks and why did they decide to start changing the trucks half way through the year. Was their something originally wrong with the 07 that they had to alter it halfway through? Also, I am assuming that the 07.5 ended up being the better of the two trucks. Thanks

07 is LBZ motor and in classic body style and .5 is LMM in new body style. Both have similarities but latter has all emissions crap like DPF. All motors have been changed mid year except 06 LLY-LBZ which is same motor with different tuning.
Someone correct me if Im wrong.

given 2 similar equiped trucks, I would take the 07 for many reasons, only one reason would determine it for me, was one tuned? (damaged, clutch slipping,no warranty, etc.)

Pretty much right. They just waited till mid year to make the body change since new emmision standards taking effect for 2007. I guess they be able to tell this way what it has. GM done many mid season changes on all kinds of stuff. In 1998 they sold both the classic style and the previous style. Thats GM for you.

FYI (ancient history) In 1989 GM changed the dash and exterior style, but a new crew cab was still old body and dash. I suppose they still had a supply of old cabs. It could have changed during the year. I waited 17 weeks on my 89 when they switched to Flint Mi.
