: Trailer Tire???

My trailer 18' flatbed w/ 2' dovetail has 235/75/R15s on it rated at right at 2,000lbs each so four = 8,000 lbs.

I found 16" rims with the 5"x5 bolt pattern. I was thinking about going to LT225/75/R16 Load Range E tires because they are about the same height, but they are rated at +2600 lbs four = 10,400lbs.

This would give a much higher load capacity + a stiffer side wall.

What do you think???

What are the axles/springs rated at?

That would add a margin to safety/tire life.

The axles are 3500lbs.

I'm not trying to increase to weight I can haul. I'm only trying get a better tire that will last longer to.

I think you should use the same wheel as your truck! The trailer I
made up uses the Dexter axle with 8-bolt 6.5" pattern for the wheels.
13" Kodiak disk brakes, too.

You can run Rickson 19.5" wheels on these axles too.

I wanted to that, but when I got the chance to buy this one for what I paid for it there was no looking back.

Someday if I need to I might upgrade my axles to 6K's and then I could use worn truck tires on the trailer.

What size of truck tire are you running? You are getting the 16" rim which you could run 215's to 245's easily maybe even 265's depending on the space.

LT style truck tires are common on heavier trailers due to the limited capacity of ST trailer tires.

LT tires will be a good choice.

I just bought some ST-235-80-16 today for my 20' gooseneck stock trailer at $105 apiece. Since the widest & tallest I can go is the 235-85-16, these ST tires rate nearly 500# more (little more than 3500#) than a corresponding LT (3042#). Been told it's the profile of 80 vs 85.I don't wear the rubber off of any of my trailers (rather they weather rot in ~ 10 years), but pulling cows and hay, I do need the max load I can get, so typically the ST tires are the way to go (plus they are generally a few $ cheaper than LT tires).
